Default Blue Devil Lives (at Nurburgring)

According to Autoweek.com, the Blue Devil was spotted turning laps at Nurburgring.
"Eyewitnesses said the car sounds supercharged, confirming reports the engine is likely a blown version of the Z06’s 7.0-liter V8, producing upward of 600 hp."

Whoa. I now have aspirations beyond the C6 Z06...that didn't last long. I want one of these instead.

In reading the articlke Lutz is quoted: “Let’s just say [Corvette chief engineer] Dave Hill is not a guy who likes playing second fiddle to any high-performance car on the road,” said Lutz. “My guess is we’re going to find a way to do something beyond the Z06, that would be at a much higher price point, and which would compete with some of the leading high-performance cars of the world.”

Does that mean that new unreleased regular Z06 isn't as competitive as Chevy would like us to believe? Playing "second fiddle" I think means just that.

Good Lord!

I think this would be a mistake on GM's part. They need to concentrate their resources on continuing to hone the C6 and Z06. If they want to do other performance cars then focus on Cadillac's V-Series and a jaw-dropping body for the next GTO. Then zero in on bringing back a knockout version of the Camaro to compete with Ford's Mustang.

For all of us on the 2006 Z06 waiting list..., Welcome Back-to-the Future = 2001 Z06.

i'm confused.

why would they test it at the ring right off the bad when they have just tested the new Z there. Maybe they shipped both over at the same time? If so where's the damn times of the current car? The thing looks exactly the same. Is this just an engine swap that they're testing? Could it have just been the regular Z and some idiot thought they heard a whine and all of a sudden it's the blue devil being tested? Any clue as to where they got this 2900lb and other information? If this car is going to be than I'm not getting the Z.

Well said! A killer looking next gen GTO - competitive Camaro (they definitely have the engines).

Heck, I'd rather GM focus on a improving their factory aftermarket like SVT or TRD

FWIW, I think someone shot a picture of a blue Z06 and suddenly it's the "blue devil" (the supercharger sounds are a bit suspect...)

Well, there will always be someone faster. As fast as the new Z06 is, it'll have trouble with a Carrera GT, and can't touch a Veyron, for example.

With 600hp and only 2900lbs, in a straight line that thing could possibly take down a Zonda or a Murcielago for a third of the price.

650hp and then we have MC12, Enzo, Carrera GT territory.

Gallardo, F430, and Viper would choke on Blue Devil smoke.

There's some wild speculation on the part of the article writer regarding the weight of this car. Its going to take much more than carbon fiber body parts for the Z to lose 250 pounds. I bet the current composite body on the standard C6 weighs less than that. Anyone?

The murci really isn't all that fast. The C6Z06 will have no problem dusting one until 5th gear. Consider that yes 600hp is shy of the enzo but it will have much more torqure than the enzo does with less weight. The real question is what tires on the rear.

This news comes right about on schedule. The pattern seems to be very secretive about the model under development, create hype, create buzz on the forums, release the info on the most recent upgrade then start the whole game over again for next years upgrade. I really don't see why it will be that hard development $'s wise to put a blower on the Z for the next round.

At 100K they better make some more radical styling changes to set this beast apart form the base models. It should still share a common style, but be able to see more then just a few subtle changes than the base model.

I'd say with good blower ( a twin screw ) it would be more like 650 HP. Then again if its a TT ... 700 +.

The best news is the weight reduction to 2900 range. This demon would be a world class car like no other. The Ford GT wouldn't even come close. The European cars would be like heavy Pigs in comparison.

And @ 100K ..... it would be the best value in automotive world.

Breaking News : Just in .... Ford GT prices just dropped to MSRP levels.

Typical media BS. They’re totally clueless.

I bet this picture wasn’t even taken at Nurburgring lol
I hope Blue Devil exists (or plans for it exist), but I highly doubt it will look identical to current Z06, and there not way in hell it’s at Nurburgring right now, yeah right

I’m sure somebody spotted “regular” Z06 there and that’s what prompted this bogus article.

When & if it comes into production in 2006? I doubt that for the simple fact that Dave Hill answered the question that the C6 would not have hp changes like the 01 Z did for years....I hope.
