there are no magazine #'s yet for the Z06 but the speculation is (rough estimate) 3.7 to 60, 11.7 @ 125-127 mph with a top speed just shy of 200 mph. As for the GT, the tested numbers have varied widely but the fastest of the full production spec GT was in Motor Trend @ 3.7 0-60, 11.2 @ 131mph in the 1/4. Top speed is rated at 205 for the GT but it can suppossedly hit it's redline in 5th gear which is 212 mph.

I suspect the August edition of the car mags will have the 2006 Z06 on the covers with full road-tests inside.

My speculation is based on the pattern GM set in the summer of 2000 when the 2001 Z06 performance specs were announced in late June, right when the car mag tests of the car hit the news stands. Testing had been conducted in May, 2000.

Some will recall the transporter near the GM test track in May with two C6 coupes and two C6 Z06s....

I'm guessing that the Z06 axle/rear suspension will stay with the car while on the track...unlike the Ford GT's.

Actually, July issue of Car&Driver gives 3.3sec. for 0-60 to the GT. That matches what a Ferrari Enzo will do.

I agree .... also, July Car & Driver editorial 'hints' that a major Z06 performance test writeup is in the wings.

I think this falls into the catagory of "things people say when they know the Ford GT is better" no cars actually had any problems, it was a precaution because the prototype developed cracks. They were replaced with better components. The C6 Crank pulley issue did happen to customer cars.

The GT is in another class. Yes its more expensive, but its got everyting the 06 Z06 has got only more. Its brutal. Enzo territory.

The Z06 is still an amazing car that only few will ever drive to its full extent.

A Ford GT does not launch that well for drags.

I understand that mid engine cars are generally faster off the line than front engine?

He doesn't.
Given the huge disparity in the test figures I've seen in the two Ford GT tests, the Z06 and the GT are gonna have to be tested at the same time. And hopefully the GT is a customer car. Since the C&D car trapped 5mph higher than the MT car, I suspect something. The Z06 should be able to run the numbers that MT's GT did, but no way in hell will run the numbers C&Ds GT did.

Yes, the Camaro and the Mustang, both with a solid rear axle which allows easier and cheaper optimization for drag-racing performance. The Z06 and the GT have a fully independent suspension more in tune with road racing.

Actually, both cars are mid-engined. The Corvette's engine is behind the centerline of the front wheels, making it a front-mid-engine design. The GT is a rear-mid engine.

Didn't Dave Hill say that the magazines would be testing Zs built in July?
