Need help with column lock!
Hi, so after selling my supercharged C5 I decided to get a 2005 C6 6 speed. When I got it the previous owner said he had the column lock bypass installed and the paperwork was in the glove box which it was. When I got the car it started and ran fine everything was good but I still saw the "steering column lock" on the dash keep coming up. I drove it 3 hrs home and drove fine but kept displaying that message. Today I went to drive the car to work and it wouldn't start. Kept showing the column lock message and wouldn't even try to start. My question is do these things go bad? It is the "corvettesofhouston" bypass. That's the only thing I can think of is that it stopped working and I need a new one? Anything else it could be? Sucks i just bought this car and cant even drive it. Let me know what you guys think, thank you!

I have an 05 and had same problem after installing COH bypass. It all went well for about 1 year. Then SCL started appearing on DIC again. Eventually it wouldn't start and only choice was to remove negative battery terminal to reset. I ended up paying GM to flash BCM to forget CL. There is a complete fix out there from GM including parts that runs around $500-600. My BCM flash only was $128 at my local dealer. Mine has never acted up after the flash. Search for service column lock fix lots of info.

If you disconnect the main battery, and then reconnect, it will temporarily allow you to start the car until you shut it down again.
Get the BCM reflashed and be done with it.
Here is the TSB on it.

True. I forgot to add that I let my SCL go on for to long and the battery disconnect/reconnect wouldn't work anymore. COH bypass was still good. I had to take the dash apart and disconnect bypass/module with battery disconnected then the engine would start and drove it straight to dealer for the fix.

Reflash BCM to take the SCLM out of play. The actual locking mech only last a few years before it gears start to bind up, while the module for the system will last longer, but only time before it fails as well.
The re-flash take both out of the equation to begin with, so you don't have to worry about either one from that point forward.

Yes, but get the steering lock into the unlock position first, then unplug it from the SCLM while still in the unlocked position, before you do the flash.
As for lock plate, best to get it changed out at some point, before someone else goes into the dash, sees that the lock is unplugged from the SCLM, Plugs is back in, ending up with a motor started/steering wheel locked as they try to drive off.
