Best oil pump for 454 LSX
Good evening guys and gals..
Happy New Year to all...
I am looking to replace my oil pump in my 2007 C6 Z06. My engine is a 454 LSX, with redone/upgraded heads, and just about everything under the hood is not factory.
"Isabella" has run exceptionally well down here in south Florida but I just have one problem - for as long as I can remember, my oil pump is putting out around 15psi(?) at idle...higher at higher RPMs of course. But never higher than 30psi.
That oil pump is the only factory piece under the hood that is left to upgrade..
Am not comfortable with those numbers..
Thank you for your help...

You have something else wrong. Bearing clearance, lifter, etc.
I run a bone stock untouched factory oil pump on my car. One of the few great parts from GM. Solid 70+psi at idle cold and 40-50psi when warm. 25k miles with 1000+rwhp.
If you are only seeing 15psi and never more than 30, you have an engine issue.

Thanks unreal...
The engine is open, out of the car and had those very things tested because of this issue. I apologize for not putting that information in my first post.
It's a reputable shop and have their own ideas about what pump to install. I came here for a second opinion.
I still want to replace the oil pump. They can still go bad.

Then just put another stock one on, or if you really feel the need, Katech pump is the only other option. It is just a worked stock pump.

I wouldn't be comfortable with that oil pressure either...
check your crank and cam bearing tolerances.
I wouldn't put the block back together until your likely tolerance issue is fully identify and taken care off.
You should be seen much better oil pressure my engine rarely sees under 30psi hot idle.
I'm rite here in north Dade area let me know if you need a second opinion.

The stock z06 pump is more than capable for everything but all out road racing. You have a pressure loss somewhere from too much clearance or sealing issue if your pressure was correct. The front cam retainer plate is overlooked a lot and will cause this.

i bought a Katech red pump and have been very satisfied. I had oil issues with several engines. Added a Katech red pump and problems went away.
However if bearing clearances are too large, you need new bearings. Katech pump may help that but may not be the best answer.
I lost several engines road racing. The current engine with the katech pump instills confidence

Apologize to all for not addressing these responses..
I will look at the front cam retainer plate..
I do go open throttle a lot...
I used to race her...lowered compression, twin turbo....
Stop racing her at the track...took the twin turbo out...went back to the default compression, upgraded the heads again....
$20,000 in suspension upgrades, drives and handles like a euro supercar...does not fishtail, hunkers down at open throttle...
by the way...she's a manual now....was automatic...changed to one of those RPM bulletproof transmissions 2 years ago..
She has never had any problems aside from heat issues due to the iron based 454 LSX down here in south Florida...
And the low oil pressure of course..

Thank you for your opinion....
My mech told me he has some ideas to apply to this issue...Will let me know this week.
I have to get another window regulator anyway....lol....window stopped coming all of the way up (3 inches from the top) suddenly...

Wow, that is "silly" to put it nicely. Why downgrade the oil system?
I have a 427 LSX that makes 1200+hp, still factory dry sump with factory oil pump.

Getting rid of the dry sump setup sounds like a terrible idea

I agree that it would be very foolish, to put it lightly, to remove that system..
Anyway, back to our regularly scheduled program (this thread)
thank you all for participating in thread is so far...
