Dealer Wants $400 for headlight replacement, WTF?

It's called Corvette Tax, and mostly reserved for those that own the Vet's, but can not wrench on the cars; even for the simple replacement items like bulbs.
As for the only difficult part of the job, not dropping the screws when you are removing and replacing them for the element.
To add, The fact that you are even posting the question, means the ownership of the vet is going to get really spendy for you instead.

List price for the low beam bulb is $284.84. Labor is 1/2 hour.
Low Beam
12335923 $284.84
You could probably find the bulb much cheaper online or try Gene Culley at cultrag. He's a vender here. Replace it yourself.

As stated, the dealership has the bulb marked up close to $285, then he has the shop labor time (read double the amount of time it really takes) on top of that to replace the build.
And yes, on the vets, if you took a rear survey of all the Vet owners (C6 and C7), would be shocked to find that 75% do not wrench on their own car's; not even changing tail light bulbs out if it goes bad.

But almost all dealers charge list price for parts, so he's replacing a $284 bulb. Then with a half hour labor at $120 per hour, he's very close to that $400. There are certainly better ways to do the replacement, but list price and book labor are what dealers do...it's not unusual.

Even just putting the D1S bulb into Google Shopping shows prices anywhere from $47 to $222. There's lots of wiggle room here. Amazon shows them all the way down to $29.99 for a PAIR...with free Prime shipping.
