2 weeks ago normal TnT night.... they probably had 50 cars and trucks total on street radials.... I hooked up every pass with a 1.32-1.34 60 ft.... as I do and everybody else does every night at this track. But, they work hard to overcome street tire cars and normal wear on the track. Its a management thing.... it really is.

But, I do agree, if nobody is working the track behind and next to the starter, all it takes is a couple of street tire cars to tear the groove up.
all you say is typically true but rentals and very cold temps a - DA is the game changer, at least in our case as not really enough cars to get the heat in the track, like a normal track day,

Yeah, I agree with that. Cold temps played a big part in the track on Saturday.... was best air we've seen this year. Unfortunately, it makes it that much tougher to hook up. Regardless of what it does to the track, I'd still give my left nut to race in the air we had on Saturday every weekend.

Putting the hoosiers 275/40/17 on C5 fronts (8 inch rim width) I think changed the diameter and contact patch which may have caused some of the problems with the car hooking (along with not the best track prep) and my 60 foot not where I think the set up is capable.

Weight reduction is the key As previously posted traction will become a problem. Sometimes a small adjustment to the amount of air in the tires will make a big difference. Something like leaving one side of the car in the sun can ruin what could have been a great pass.

There is also the problem of getting some heat in the track.
As Dennis stated we usually police the track keeping the water from traveling towards the line & etc. If you can..... it really helps to have couple of guys warm up the lane before you make a pass on a cold day.

While Dennis has a weight disadvantage I am looking
forward to seeing a timeslip that begins with a "9" good luck

Trying to get the car to hook was a problem.
Started at 20PSI cold made two passes, checked the pressure on the second pass after spinning badly it went up to 22PSI lowered the pressure back to 20PSI still spun. Started lowering the pressure 19PSI tried a couple passes still not hooking. Started lowering the pressure .5PSI prior to each pass all the way down to 17PSI still spinning could not get good launch. Decided to start over and went back up to 20PSI. Spun on the first pass, tried getting out off the groove half a tire spun real bad. I was thinking about packing it up by this point. Someone I was with pointed out that the starter(Mike) sprayed the rest of the VHT he had on the track after seeing me spin the last two passes, no other cars were running at this time. Talked with the starter we found the best groove in the track and then he helped me line the car up on that groove. Took the RPM's up to 2500 to 2700 and the car hooked, hot lapped the car did the same thing and ran the second best pass of the day 10.13. But by then the temp was up to 60 and the DA was +370.
Slow motion video of the launch taken by Bret. don't know what pass by definitely spinning

Here was a big part of the problem.....there were more rocks in the water box than there was water.

Thats how it was when I made the 10.16 pass, 5 hot laps to get the groove hot couldn't leave over 2000 rpm with part throttle launch no flooring till 3 cars out ,third pass was the 10.16 so ON 4TH i TOOK IT UP TO 2300 and floored it hung the wheels I'm saying all the way down this is the 9s pass get back no time slip the starter says i left before the clock started, now tommyd knows that never happened as i always wait and the slowest reaction times as i am racing myself no need to get a 000 so i go right out and went up in smoke day over WTF plus it was a spring track, the worst traction with all winter soaking snow and rain and weeping up, but still was fun. I hope you reach your goals

Same thing happened to me though it was probably a 10.0X pass could see 60 foot on board but no slip. Apologies from the event sponsor but hey that's racing.

A couple quick questions for you:

I see you run a 275/40r17 with 3.42s, what's your RPM crossing the traps?

Second, do you lock the converter in 3rd gear on the track?

Thanks

I didn't scan my runs so don't know exact number, over 6,000 RPM

Second, do you lock the converter in 3rd gear on the track?

No it's a single disk converter and it's unlocked all the way.

Cool, right inline with what I thought. I imagine with that cam you're shifting about 7000rpm?

Shifts points are commanded at 6850 and 6800 with the actual shift happening at +7,100.

Its a shame that there are all those little rocks on the track. I would be pissed at the track manager for rock chips hitting my car when a car in front of me does a burn out.
