OBX headers/xpipe
Hey guys...proud new owner of a black 07 z06. Sold my C5Z, would've loved to keep it as well. Did the headlight/fog light 8000k mod so far. My plans are intake, headers, xpipe, cam, and tune(most likely leaving the factory mufflers) and possibly welding in some cutouts on the xpipe. Of those mods, what would ya go with first?-I'm leaning toward the headers/xpipe. With long tubes, xpipe and stock mufflers, will I notice a nicer, louder sound?(no cats)
I've heard mostly positives about the OBX system, but for about $1000 less, I'm going to give it a try.
Anyone installed these?

I went with z06 manifolds, but having recently done the job, I have to recommend getting/finding a lift or be prepared for a sore back, arms, legs, everything. Also the majority of it is relatively easy to do by yourself, but an extra set of hands makes installing the new manifolds a lot easier since you can bring them in from under the car and have someone else hold them in place.
good luck!
EDIT:
If youre going to go with chinese headers, there are lower priced ones than obx on ebay (like 350 to 500) that look exactly the same.
Also dont use the provided gaskets - you should only use the factory style. The ones obx provides have given people issues because they are the cheaper fiberglass type that fall apart.
good luck!

Burning Brakes
Just had a set of OBX headers installed on my car this weekend.
My tuner stated they fit ok, flange needed some grinding at the bolt holes, and the clamps were a joke. But they are on the car and wow does this thing sound ridiculous w/ the NPP exhaust.
I'd have to say, I felt pretty good paying half or less as compared to the other top brand headers.

Thanks for the help guys. So, for the xpipe, I'll probably need to buy o2 extensions right? How bout the clamps/gaskets? Can I use my old clamps? Or where could I get my hands on some?

you can use oem clamps and or the ones obx provides. most auto stores carry band style clamps - avoid u bolt clamps as they are the most likely to come loose and leak

Torca accuseal clamps are the way to go. You can find them on ebay or various websites, just google accuseal clamps. Cheap insurance for an exhaust leak free install.

You can buy accuseal clamps at almost any auto parts store. They look like these:
Note: if youre joining two pipes and the female end doesnt have relief cuts, I suggests going with the wider of the two clamp styles as it seals best

the headers sound great my ex girl and I took the first ride in it and we both just looked at each other and smiled. that is what this car is supposed to sound like. I also had borla s type 2's.
the fit was good
the quality of the welds and headers were good
the hardware: springs, Bolts, Gaskets are junk
easy solution buy new ones... I just went to lowes
buy gm manifold gaskets or just reuse the old ones
if it is a manual make sure the clutch slave cylinder hose is at least a quarter inch from the headers.... I cannot stress this enough. If you melt it, 1600 to fix at Chevy
but do not hesitate to buy obx they are not bad quality, I work as a toolmaker building parts everyday and they did not have a cheap feel at all. If I could go back I probably would have had them ceramic coated but this is not really necessary

Also buy new header manifold bolts. I got mine from the dealer they already have the locktite on them
while I had the spark plugs out I replaced with oem and did the wires too. it is hard to get the old ones off without breaking at least one
Good luck and enjoy the ride
