A word of caution: I've seen instances where the alternator acts up, but it's not caused from within the alternator. Connections at the starter are often the culprit and broken connections anywhere in between on the wires going to the 4-pin plug. Regardless, you'll end up with a far superior alternator if you purchase one.

No that I've ever seen. Having it kill a battery makes me want to get my mini DC amp clamp out and see if it's drawing current down from diodes in the regulator having some kind of partial short in them. Voltage regulation requires that the "S" terminal on the alternator have the proper voltage on it. If the voltage is high, it will not charge and if it's low, it may throw high voltage.

I didn't read this entire thread as it's a bit long. If this has already been addressed, sorry. I have aftermarket valve covers that I needed to grind my stock Alternator a bit for to get clearance. Do I need to do the same thing with these? I'm interested in a black one. Are they still available?

Yeah, I read up on that. The starter connections are tight & corrosion free. Could be elsewhere in the wires but likely a bad diode in rectifier. Besides, how can I justify a new Billet Tech Alternator to the wife if I fix the wiring first?

If you do it quickly enough, I'll be able to ship it out tomorrow.

Black is currently on backorder, but I have more on the way soon. These go in spurts and sometimes it's difficult to keep up with demand. I hope to have more available within 10 days or less. If you would like, you can forward payment and I can save time by having yours drop shipped from the manufacturer.

These alternators work on C5's but there is a known compatibility issue with all aftermarket alternators and the C5's. Intermittently when starting the car, a charge fault message will appear and the PCM will not send a startup signal to the alternator. To get the alternator to fire up, you tap the throttle and bump the RPM past 2kRPM and it'll fire up and go. It doesn't do it every time and have a possible remedy for it, which is a harness that can be wired to make the regulator a self-starting regulator. I have yet to try it with a customer car though. The C5 members that who purchase this alternator understand the issue and are more than happy to deal with it as opposed to dealing with such a weak factory alternator.
Invoice sent. Black currently on backorder, but should ship any day.

Guys/Gals,
I have had this alternator in the Z for a couple weeks now. My charge status is now 14.7V or higher always. I ranged from an occasional 12.5V(usually giving me a code) to 14.1V, but would typically be in the 13.5-13.7 range. Battery always had to be on a tender for anything over a couple days sitting. I have left the battery alone now for 5 days with no issues on restart. Confidence is restored in this set up.
Just my 0.02 worth.
Great product.
