Finally resolve a rattling issue - may help others
All,
Recently I've been searching for a irritating and somewhat scary sounding rattle that sounded as if it was coming from under the shifter somewhere. Everything from loose exhaust, exhaust contacting the body, aftermarket cat coming apart, torque tube issues, etc, was on my list of possible culprits. After several times under the car with a rubber mallet and tightening things and looking and feeling around for issues I found the issue. Apparently my LG street series headers have been contacting a heatshield on the passenger side right where a rivet is (was located). The headers have been on the car for a year or longer. Looks like the rivet finally wore away and now the shield was flapping around and vibrating against the exhaust/chassis. Used a screw driver and bent the shield away from the header so hopefully it won't make contact in the future. Used some high temp aluminum tape to hold the shield in place so it doesn't rattle. I also had this strange noise that would occur when turning left but not right that also sounded like it was coming from the same area. Looks like this solved both problems.
