Default 180mph!

Hello all, I took my 08 coupe up to 180 last night and now the shifter feels like it has moved over to the left! It moves a tiny amount to get into first gear. There is lots of play moving it to the right going to fifth or sixth. It is a B&M short throw. Anyone have any ideas?? Maybe too hot??

Thanks

Those Mexican roads will do that everytime with the B&M shifter. Stay below 175 next time.

for your own sake do not tell people you are speeding
when you had it apart did you remove or loosen the shifter box ?
that is what it sounds like.

If you would have topped it out at 186mph you wouldn't be having these problems.

"on a closed track"

I felt like it would have done more than 186, it was still going strong. I wasn't ripping through the gears. I started in 3rd. I hate the way it feels now. Ive had the short throw in it for 6 months or so but have not gone that fast, maybe 165 max at the track

I talked to a guy that said his "shifter went to jell-o" from the heat at the track the other day. Sound about the same?

Problem one is the B&M crap shifter.
Toss that in the trash, or at your worst enemy, and get a better shifter.

What do you suggest? I had hurst on my C5 and loved it but they don't offer it for 08+ C6.

i think i had the same thing happen to me. it was the stock shifter though. it felt mushy iin second. loose and spongy. as the other poster mentioned, it was the shift box. screw came loose i guess it wasnt torqued down from the factory. anyway MGW went it after that and haven't looked back.

What he said. I'd honestly stick with the stock over the b&m. I made that mistake once, never again.

Why not, I did.

On the Dade Collier Training runway during the Miami Mile event of course!

I did not have any shifter issues after three of these runs (nor 494 drag strip runs for that matter).

I have seen friend shifters "turn to mush" on the road course when they overheated their transmissions. I can tell you, since I have a tranny temp gauge in my car, if you went up to 180 and then back down...you didn't overheat your transmission. Takes longer than that...20-30 minutes at high rpms like road course use can do that. Both of my friends who had that problem on the road course ended up replacing their transmissions.

In your case I would bet your shifter moved or your shifter box came loose. Also look at the bushings on the shifter box, they wear out after a while and cause the shifter to be loose. If I was you I'd take the shifter out and check it and the box. Zip sells replacement bushings.

Hurst is also crappy and saying it is one step above stock is being nice. To me they are not worth the money. But that has been my experience with them, that they suck. Especially once you've drive the same car with a good shifter.

Check the bolt that holds the shifter to the rod that goes to the tranny. It's a torx head I believe not sure what size. Sounds like it may have come loose.
