Need tire advice, 685rwhp
I finished upgrades to my Z06
Engine work, 100 hp N2O shot
I can't get traction in 1st and 2nd without the nitrous
I have a 13 with the 20/19 wheel option
I have tried the MT DOT Drag radials and hate the handling on the street, looking for a better option.
Hoosier A6 requires new wheels due to diameter, any ideas ?
Thanks

MT > Nitto for traction. Depends what your willing to give up, but I have run both and I'm just slightly more careful in rain and such with the MT's.

unfortunately your going to have to give up some cornering ability in order to hook up on the street. the mickey ET streets are the **** for traction but obviously are going to suck handling wise. thats why the best option is to have a handling tire on your stock rims like a ps2/super sport/ nitto invo and have an extra set of rims like a c5 z06 rim or something along those lines with a drag radial mounted on it to switch when you want to have some straight line fun

Safety Car
I run 18 x 12 repro wheels with 335/30-18 R-888s. With 565 actual rwhp I can hook in second and up. These tire are for road racing and handling is BETTER than with standard tires. No, they don't hook as well as full on drag slicks or DRs but are a pretty good compromise.

You're making too much power for a traditional street tire....period.
I run about the stickiest street tire made...after talking with Tire Rack they said NO street tire was better for dry traction (345/30/19 Khumo XS) and it will hold 550rwhp at 40mph, which is stupid impressive for it. Unfortunately Khumo opted to quit making that size
My recommendation would be to go with Michellin Pilot Sport Cups on an 18/19 size as long as you drive in good weather and don't care about getting more than 5k out of a set. They're beasts.

If you chose a nice sticky rear and paired that with fronts that would last more than a few thousand miles.....how big of a clusterxxxx would that be? That's what I go to the track with, but I wonder how hard it would be to get along with on a more permanent basis.

I really think I want to try the stickiest road race tire I can, the drag radials I tried where only good with low pressure and I just can't castrate the cars handling.
That being said I live in west Texas and it really really never ever rains any more
?? Road race or auto cross. ??
A 5 thousand mile tire doesn't bother me if I could hook in second

I know I will have traction issues @ WOT without the nitrous, but I just thought I could find a better tire for the street that wouldn't not castrate the handling of the car.
Ideally a tire that old handle the power in second gear.
A road racing tire really seems the best option, I will use a DOT drag radial mounted on a 19 for the drag strip but I do not use the car for commuting just for the occasional when I need a little pick me up
A romp from 40 in second gear would be a blast - someone's gotta show these local cobras a thing or 2 !!
These drag radials are worthless on the street unless they are damn near flat and hot
I'm running pilot ps2's and the 20 in rear cup wheel
You are right I want a big piece of the cake, that's why I own a Z06

If you want a jack of all trades, you have to be willing to compromise. A set of r888 or pilot super sports/ pilot cups will work well, assuming you don't mind tire wear and not dead-booking every gear, but still getting good handling.
But if you want a tire that will hook that power on the street, you're going to want drag radials. And that means you need to accept the lose in handling.
And you need to heat cycle those drag radials, otherwise you will have tires that work as well as average street tires.

Now that's a reasonable alternative
I have a set of MT's on 19 " wheels - when I go to the track
Looks like I'm ordering a set of Hoosiers (A6) - for warm sunny day driving, but that means I need another set of wheels ;(
Thanks for the comments
Btw would it make any one feel better if I said the nitrous bottle ran dry ?? LOL
