Default Replacement for carbon ceramics on ZR1 ... GOING BROKE!

Hey guys ...
I need some advice on a cheaper option for the brakes on the ZR1. Has any of you taken off the carbon ceramic rotors and replace them with steel blanks (we called them Napa disposables) and run Carbotech pads? I did this with my C5Z back in the day ...

I would appreciate any advice!

Stephanie

supervettes sells metal replacement rotors and hawk makes pads that work for the Zr1/Z07 calipers

It's a forum vendor disease . Guess they have nothing better to do than waste time in dozens of PMs, rather than post it once. Oh well.

Ok all here is the secret. All we are doing is giving price quotes on OEM ZR1 brake components.

I thought GM bragged that those ZR1 brakes are supposed to last the life of the car. How much are replacements?

For street use they probably do last forever. For track use, not so much! Replacements are around $5-$6k for a complete set of rotors and about $7-$800 for a set of pads.

I'm really hoping this is talking about track use.

Why don't you just swap to a Z06/GS brake setup and your choice of pads?

Or just aftermarket rotors and calipers that work better fpr track duty. Then sell the stock stuff to a street only driver looking to look cool with ZR1 brakes. You will make money on the deal.

Quite frankly the CC brakes are not that bad from a cost standpoint and actually work great on the track. They last quite a while but when you do need to replace stuff, it hits you in the pocket. Personally I get about 10 track days out of a set of front pads and about double that for rears. I lucked out and ran across a deal on pads so my cost is about $500 for a set, so all in all it does not work out that expensive. Rotors seem to last around 5x pad changes, so that should work out to 50 track days for fronts and about 75 days for rears. So factoring in the cost of pads and rotors and doing the math using the rate that they are consumed you are looking at about $127.50 worth of brakes used every track day. Not cheap but not excessive either for the level of performance that the carbon ceramic brakes offer.

Not bad at all. As you know, others should look at the cost to replace GTR , GT3 and F430 (Scud) CC rotors and pads. Corvettes Not nearly as expensive. Brakes and Tires make tracking expensive. That's why I'm looking for a C6 Z06 for the track.
