Replacement for carbon ceramics on ZR1 ... GOING BROKE!
Hey guys ...
I need some advice on a cheaper option for the brakes on the ZR1. Has any of you taken off the carbon ceramic rotors and replace them with steel blanks (we called them Napa disposables) and run Carbotech pads? I did this with my C5Z back in the day ...
I would appreciate any advice!

For street use they probably do last forever. For track use, not so much! Replacements are around $5-$6k for a complete set of rotors and about $7-$800 for a set of pads.

Quite frankly the CC brakes are not that bad from a cost standpoint and actually work great on the track. They last quite a while but when you do need to replace stuff, it hits you in the pocket. Personally I get about 10 track days out of a set of front pads and about double that for rears. I lucked out and ran across a deal on pads so my cost is about $500 for a set, so all in all it does not work out that expensive. Rotors seem to last around 5x pad changes, so that should work out to 50 track days for fronts and about 75 days for rears. So factoring in the cost of pads and rotors and doing the math using the rate that they are consumed you are looking at about $127.50 worth of brakes used every track day. Not cheap but not excessive either for the level of performance that the carbon ceramic brakes offer.
