Alternator (or power steering?) noise under the hood
Hey everyone,
Sorry for my bad description, not a native speaker...
My 2008 C6 has started to make noise and it certainly seems to be coming from the alternator area. You can hear it with the hood open and it is a "whining" noise in idle, especially when parked next to a wall that reflects the noise. If you rev to around 1.5k and then release the pedal it can be heard very clearly as the revs drop to around 1.2k. You can also hear the same noise if you rotate the steering wheel in standstill.
It sounds like a bad alternator bearing, but I have already taken the alternator out and let an alternator-shop check it. They didnt find anything. Now I am thinking of ordering a new alternator, but before I spend that money I was wondering if anybody here had an idea if there is anything else to test.
Any ideas?
Bonus question: What is the correct part number for a 2008 with manual transmission? I found 25888970 but I am not sure if that is for automatic only.
Thanks in advance!

Sounds like it could also be power steering pump. Put it back together, check fluid level, then use a stethoscope to pinpoint the source of the sound. You can also check idler and tensioner pulleys by spinning them with the belt off. They should roll smooth and quietly.

Hey again,
I disconnected the alternator today (the electric plug) and the noise was gone. So it seems to be the alternator.
I'd like to order a new one, could you guys please help me with the parts no.?
Is 25888970 the correct part for manual cars?

That PN comes up for automatic equipped cars, I can't find a PN for 6MN cars. You might have to get your old one rebuilt locally.
