Default oil temp on a 2006 Z51

just wondering...why my oil temp, just normal driving 55mph...is around 225-230.....cooling 200-210. doesn't the A6 Z51's have a oil cooler? what would the temp be on a LS2 without an oil cooler?

225-230 seems high for a car with an oil cooler.

What is the outside temps when you're running that hot. Those temps aren't harmful, in and of themselves, but they do seem a bit high for low speed highway driving. I'm in the Phoenix area, and with the stock Z's oil cooler (07, so it's just air cooled), my oil temps stay around 175-200 degrees in mixed summer driving.

Drove to San Diego and back a few weeks ago, and the oil temps never got above 210, even in city stop and go traffic. My dry sump system might be part of the reason....

Will check mine, but Z51 should have oil cooler. Check front of steering rack and you'll see cooler mounted there. It's plenty hot in Houston and mine never runs much more than about 190-195, even in the hottest days.

Z51 stick shift gets the oil cooler.
Z51 automatic does not get the oil cooler (except possibly for 2005).

We had a 2006 Z51 A6, and now a 2009 Z51 A6. No oil cooler on either one.
Some info in the OP's profile would be helpful. On an 85' day here in Illinois, cruising 70 mph on the interstate in our 2006 would usually give 210-220 oil temp after an hour, the 2009 with the slightly bigger engine runs about 5' warmer. Coolant is usually around 195-200 on the highway.

Desired oil temps with 5W-30 are about 190-250, so 220 is right in the middle. Only problem is that the oil temp goes up really fast when you start having too much fun.

That's the power steering fluid cooler.

I have an 06 Z51 6 speed with a supercharger. My temps run around 212* for oil and 186-196* for the coolant. This is on local streets. If I am on the highway the oil is about the same and coolant will drop to around 180-186*. This is in the summer in Houston with outside temps around 96*.

My 06 HC Z51 runs around 215 in normal driving. It can't really run much cooler since the oil coolers on the 05 and 06 are cooled by the coolant in the radiator which is right around 180-190 in my car. No way your going to see anything below 210 for oil in these.

My 2005 Z51 with 480whp in SoCal runs on the average 205 water 220 oil. Last weekend I was driving the canyons hard hill climbs and saw 253 oil and somewhere like 220 water. In AZ with ambients of 116 I was runing 227 water 235 oil street driving traffic. I think I willl mod the fan system and improve the cooling system soon.

My stock 05 LS2 usually runs between 210-220, I haven't ever pushed it too hard as far as extended high rpm use- I'm sure it would go up if I did.
