Default Gm ls3 hot cam 88958733 install

Please help a novice. I have a 2012 coupe and want about 50 hp gain. I want to maintain the stock driveability if possible. I have seen so much techno jargon. Please help with an answer I can understand. Will the GM LS3 Hot Cam 88958733 work?
Thanks

Just found out from my dealer this definetly voids the warranty. My dealer wants
$4,000 to put it in. Holy cow.

If you have an auto trans it can be a problem in terms of driveability. Just sayin'.

There are much better options for half of the price. Any forum vender can help you out with this. Don't go to your dealer.

Do not go to your dealer

Get a better designed cam and pick up more power with better drivability.

I asked the same question, basically the same results. Here is some info GM has about the cam. They put this cam in the 430 HP LS3 with no other mods. Advertise it with a complete component package with an Auto Trans. Seems like a pretty good deal to me, except for having the dealer install it.

I agree that dealerships should generally be avoided at all costs, but has anyone used/known a dealership w/ a master tech who's had lots of experience w/ cam swaps? Have there been any GM dealerships that would honor the factory Powertrain warranty for factory GM parts installed by GM certified technicians? I'm willing to bet there may actually be a few that do...but I don't believe everything I think.

If I talked to a dealership master tech that had performed multiple LSx cam swaps & he/she gave me an excellent impression for highly competent work, & the dealership would honor the factory warranty, I wouldn't hesitate, but I'm thinking there's likely no such animal.

Default Cam swap

Macmulkin Chevrolet in NH will do the whole thing for $2,500 or less but voids the powertrain warranty from GM. So if I am going to void the warranty than whose cam should I use?

This isn't a 'factory' GM part, it is a GMPP part and considered aftermarket.

Which means you'd be better off pulling the stock LS3 and selling it and buying the 480hp GMPP motor with the hot cam and a 2 year warranty.

If you can do your own swap, it'll probably cost less than $1K, you'll have what you want and still have a warranty.

Or buy a Shelby and a you can have the dealer install up to 750 horses with warranty

After market performance mods and still keep my warranty shouldn't be in the same sentence.

Default Cam swap

I agree with the warranty issue. GM should warranty GM parts and labor. That says it all about the confidence they have in their product and technicians. So what cam would you install using the criteria I spelled out?

It's a shame a warranty is treated like an insurance claim. You could spell a word wrong they will deny a claim, it's no wonder the insurance lobby is one of the wealthiest in the nation.

LS Series Hot Cam

Duration
219° / 228°

Lift
525" / .525"

LSA
112°
__________________________________

I would look elsewhere other than the LS Series Hot Cam.

The intake duration is weak

The exhaust duration is ok

The intake lift is less than your OEM LS3 cam.

The exhaust lift is the same as your OEM LS3 cam

Also, with an LSA of only 112 degrees, this cam is going to idle poorly in a Corvette with an A6 transmission ... and have very little vacuum at idle.

Poor choice to say the least.

Look for a cam with specs close to this:

Comp Cams intake lobe # 13016 LSL
Comp Cams exhaust lobe # 13159 LXL

Specify an LSA of 116° and an ICL of 114° (that 114° ICL will give this cam 2 degrees of built-in advance)
_____________________________________

Here is what you will get:

Duration
223° / 230°

Lift
.610" / .609"

LSA
116°

ICL
114°

Overlap
-5.5°

NOTE: Use a set of valve springs capable of supporting a max lift of .650"

NOTE: Use a set of 7.425" long pushrods (that's .025" longer than the stock rods)

BTW ... You can say goodbye to your powertrain warranty no matter what cam you install (other than stock), and no matter who installs it.

.

OP, as mentioned above, I would check in with the many vendors we have on this site. Vengeance Racing, LGMotorsports, Livernois, A&A corvettes, Cartek, etc just to name a few. I went with Vengeance Racing, talk to Ryan or Kevin - great guys over there. Good luck.

Or you can go directly to the Texas Speed website ... Pick the Comp Cams lobe numbers you want, the LSA and the ICL you want ... and custom order the cam to your specs

I wouldnt trust a GM garage to work on my car putting a cam in. No way, no how.

Find a good performance shop in your area. Usually they will have a dyno and will do a before and after along with any fine tuning with 30 days is generally covered or at a small fee. Some shops warranty the labor if anything goes bad. Remember, tunes dont go bad, parts do.

That looks like the LT4 Hot Cam and the 2001 LS6 and the LS2 normal cam. Is it? Pretty weak.
