Default Map Lights Stay on all the time

I have a 2009 and the switchs on the mirror won't shut the mirror lights off. Is their another switch somewhere? The lights are on when ever the car is running. They time out in about 15 minutes after the car is shut off.

Try pushing in, one time, on the dash light brightness control. Left of the steering wheel.

Actually, push it in one time and release it. You won't see an immediate result, but when you get out and shut the door, the map lights will go out when the car locks.

To operate properly start by insuring that the two buttons on the mirror are in the off position. Off = in (on = out)

Then get out and close door. The mirror lights should dim out after 20 seconds. IF THEY DO NOT DIM OUT, push the dimmer light switch on the left side of the dash 1 time.

Then get out and close the door. The mirror lights should dim out after 20 seconds.

Only about 75% to 80% of C6 owners do that.

I've seen that problem posted here many, many times in the 8 years I've been on the forum. But I did it without realizing it a few months ago. My wife asked me why there were some lights on in my car.

I replaced the map and footwell lights with leds. They still dim but are barely on with the slightest of light. I would really doubt this would be enough to drain the battery. Just curious if anybody else had this issue when changing to LEDs

Yes! No problem and no battery drain. Kinda annoying!

Thanks! I switched to interior leds, license plate and reverse. Looking into options for parking light and fogs now. Fun stuff!

I have the opposite problem. The map lights on my mirror won't come on any more. They were working fine (with LEDs) a couple of months ago but nothing I do now gets even a glimmer out of them..

I had that issue also. I went with a more expensive 194 LED bulb. Problem solved. Do not buy the cheap Ebay bulbs.
I believe I got mine through JWM.

I know that this is an old thread, but the instructions are correct. I had pushed the map light buttons in and out a couple of times on my 2013, and they would not shut off afterwards. In a panic, I searched the forum and found this easy solution.

You guys are great😁

I bought the cheap Ebay set of led and have the same problem. Sometimes you get what you pay for-a problem, and end up paying again more to fix it.

After finding my mirror lights permanently on several times I put a plastic lock collar with set-screw on the dimmer button that prevents the button from being accidentally pushed in. I think I was bumping the dimmer button with stuff or elbow or knee or feet or some body part - never figured out what - but the mirror lights stay off after a short delay.

Mine stay on all the time since switching to Sylvania LEDs. They are definitely "off" with the switch on the rearview mirror and I've pressed the dimmer. They are much dimmer than when they are on. I think my SS always sent power to the bulbs to be able to trip an error when the bulbs burn out. I wonder if this car is the same.
