Default Seatbelt retractor

Ok silly question. Installing harness bar and i let the slack out of the retractor. It now refuses to unlock to allow me to pull the seat belt out due to thickness and engaging lock. Any suggestions?

If it isn't allowing you to pull the belt out you haven't allowed it to release from cinch mode. The belt has to retract all the way into the reel before cinch mode is released. Not sure what you mean by thickness but if the belt folded as it retracted into the reel that could jam the reel. Early C5s had the issue and a lot of other cars have similar issues with the child seat locks (which are basically the same assembly) built into their belt systems. Sometimes giving a huge pulling shock will pop it loose but most of the time you need to figure out a way to feed the belt further into the reel or pick at it and get it unfolded.

The belt goes into cinch mode when it is pulled all the way out and will release from cinch mode when it completely retracts into the reel.

Called local gm service. Reinstalled the retractor to the car and it came right out. Must have a safety switch when not against the frame.

Didn't understand you had the retractor out of the car when trying to pull the belt out.
