LS2 A6 gurus step inside
So I picked up my 07 A6 Vette (non Z51) last December and have been modding it over the long Chicago winter. My plans are headers, O/R Xpipe, it has a Corsa axle back, Halltech 103 w/LS3 maf conversion, Yank SS 2300 stall and a 150 shot. I will be running Mickey Thompson ET street 275/40/17 at the track with GTO spares. My question is how will this set up hold up? My main concern is the A6 which I have read is both strong or weak depending on the article but it can't be rebuilt any stronger. A 4L60 swap is out of the question at this point. Also any other things to look for when modding an LS2? I know there is a #7 cylinder issue the requires dropping another step colder plug when spraying nitrous. Any guesses on what it will run too?

I'm certainly no expert but I'll get you started with some reading material if you're interested. The general consensus is the stock A6 is fine to 500 rwhp. But once you go over that and/or start beating on it at the track regularly the longevity drops off fairly rapidly and usually the 2-3-4 clutch packs fail first.
That isn't true now. A few companies are offering beefed up internal parts for the A6 now.
Here is the link to a very long thread by thesubfloor who has an A6 behind an LS7. He went through 5 or 6 stock A6's before he finally found Century Trans in Texas who seems to have found the key to making it live under high HP and drag use. It's a good read and quite informative. Good luck.

Not sure what your ET goals are with the car but if it were me I'd go higher on the stall and lower on the nitrous, perhaps a 3200-3400 stall and a 75-100 shot?
It might (or might not) cost you a little bit in overall ET/MPH improvement over a 2300 stall/150 shot combo but the trans (all parts for that matter) could last longer plus you'd likely be a little quicker for those times when the bottle is off as well.

Thanks for the info guys. Yes, I meant 3200. I guess I was a little dyslexic yesterday. I feel a lot better about modding after seeing some success with built A6's. I'm hoping to dip into the 10's with my combo. Does anybody see any reason why I shouldn't?

I've got several stock A6s out there behind motors making well over 500 rwhp. A good trans tune is imperative. I cannot stress that enough.
If your tuner is turning off the TM, find another tuner. The TM can be tuned, and a certain amount of it should be left on/in.

Excellent point that I intended to mention yesterday but didn't. Thesubfloor stresses that point often in his posts about his Century Trans and he says he has several proven trans tunes that he is willing to share when you're ready.

Other than that 'hard hitting/extra torque generating' nitrous taking it's toll on the stock trans over time, no, I don't see any reason at all why that combo shouldn't go 10s all day long.

I had talked to RPM and they were the ones that got me really nervous about the 6L80 in the first place. I feel a lot better now and will look into Century and Circle D when the time comes. I'll also get a hold of subfloor when my tuner is going to tune for the stall.
