Default T56 6 speed manual transmission??

I did a search but found nothing on the internal problems of the t56. I have an 05 c6 z51 m6 with 92,000 miles and recently had to have the transmission rebuilt. It had a noise and wouldn't stay in reverse. I inspected the parts after I got my car back and the main shaft is totally worn out where the 5th&6th gear cluster sets. I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this and if it is a common problem. I haven't been able to talk to the actual trans shop that did the rebuild but the shop that did the R&R had not seen this before. If someone has a link to a transmission forum they could share thanks in advance.

Unfortunately it is fairly common.

Thanks for the input. I have done quite a lot of research since I made the OP. What I found out is that this is a weak link in a good idea. I'm guessing that if you spend a great deal of time cruising at freeway speeds it is going to wear out and eventually need a R&R. One more example of engineering failure. Hopefully the upgrades are the answer. I have enjoyed every mile I put on and will continue to enjoy every future mile.

This is common occurance on T56's. The updated TR6060's have splines for both (5th and 6th driven gears are 2 piece) gears which are much stronger.
