Default Tires for 18" skinnies?

What tires are available for 18" skinnies?

I looked M&H, Hoosier and MT and didn't see anything...or did I miss something?

I know people run em, so what's available?

If you have a factory wheel narrowed your car sure would look much better than running the GTO wheels. An almost skinny would be a factory wheel narrowed to 6-6 1/2" and then go with this 186 mph rated tire. A whole lot cheaper tire! http://www.buynewtires.com/ProductLi...45&diameter=18

I once considered doing something like that as well. It's cost effective and will likely allow for much better handling/street manners than traditional skinnies do when driving to/from the track.

Hmmm...so the only tires available are actual radials and no bias-ply?

I wonder how much additional weight the radial adds over the bias front runners. If too much I'll just go ahead and go with 17" GTO spares to run the lighter tire.

Bingo

Hoping it'll clear the brakes without the use of a spacer. I think it's SUPPOSED to clear Z51 brakes.

Well, for what it's worth....

The weight difference between the best tire options for the 17" GTO wheel and the 18" CTS wheel are...

M&H Bias Ply 26x4.5x17 - 11.8lbs
M&H Radial 185/50/18 - 17.6lbs
Mickey Thompson Sportsman 26x6x18 - 18lbs

GTO Spare wheel - 15.5lbs
CTS Spare wheel - 16.7lbs

GTO Combo - 27.3lbs (plus weight of spacers 4lbs each....35.3lbs)
CTS Combo - 34.3lbs (doesn't need a spacer)

For a Z51, the CTS combo SHOULD be lighter and will save about 40lbs of rotational weight.

Also, the CTS spare supposedly clears the Z06/GS brakes as well.

Price is 350 shipped for both CTS spares from Parts Taxi vs 193 shipped for both GTO spares.

I've also found out that the old combo I had on the front of my car when I went 11.29 was weighing in at 54lbs each....ouch

Cray Scorpion 18x9 - 29lbs
245/40/18 Hankook V12 - 25lbs

Edit - Kevin at parts taxi came through with weight on the CTS spare in record time

Good info Shawn. Looks like not much difference in weight of the two.

I used base rotors on my Z51 and did not need spacers for the GTO spares. Although they do sit in a little farther than what looks good IMO. About 20# additional weight savings for four base rotors vs. the Z51. And I really can't tell in difference in stoping power although I'm sure the base would heat up much quicker road racing. Either with create tire loss of traction which forcs ABS to engage.

I weighed my GTO spares at 13#6oz. each but only after grinding off the raised letters, sandblasting and repainting. And my M&H bias 17" tires at 11.7# ea. But again only after cutting off all the outward moulding tangs. They were long and ugly on these tires.

Do you have a picture of the CTS spares? May look better than the GTO spares?

I assume you mean 17", " M&H Bias Ply 26x4.5x16 - 11.8lbs"

Yes, I did mean 17" for the bias ply weights.

I had considered running base rotors, but I really prefer filling out the wheels with Z51 sizes.

If I get real close to a record-breaking run I'll swap to lighter base rotors.

This is the CTS spare as it comes from the factory:

I'll eventually probably paint my C5 Z wheels that are in back gloss black to match.

Look similar to the GTO spares. But they don't appear to have raises letter that IMO have to be ground off. Big advantage is you want to run larger rotors than the base. Thanks for the pic.

I have a couple spare of aftermarket drilled and slotted zinc plated base rotors that have less then a couple hundred miles on them if you should decide.

I will have a set coming shortly.

I'll also be getting a custom built Circle D converter. They're giving me a good deal on rebuilding my crappy Yank 3200 to stall it up between 3600-3800 and give it a much higher STR.

FYI , the bigger OEM Z06/GS calipers still require a 1/2" spacer to clear the CTS spares

Also, the internal diameter of the hub for the CTS is smaller than a GTO, so you'll need to do a bit more grinding to fit the wheels on a Corvette hub.

Ah, I guess the information I found on the forum was incorrect then.

Does it clear Z51 calipers with no spacer?

I would think so, as the Z51 caliper is not as big as the Z06 and that's where the contact is being made.
The guy who posted last year about the CTS spares fitting a C6 Z06 was incorrect. The picture he supplied, which is the one you used above, shows an aftermarket rotor/hat combo...and it's not even on a Corvette

thanks floyd

I bought the cts 18" 2011 rims it seems to me a good price and weight I want the original spare tires I see that ebay sells them at a good price
my question is if being a spare tire can not be risk? or will it be a problem for the final speed in the 1/4?
How many people will use the spare rim and tire?
someone else?
