Advice for my first vette
I have finally landed my dream of owning a vette. I picked up a 2005 C6 and was looking for advice on what I should modify first. Most of the car is stock with the exception of some Z06 wheels and custom brake covers. I like the look, I am looking for performance enhancements. Thanks for any advice.

Like any vehicle...first steps should be intake, exhaust and tuning.
Pick your favorite brands...they all work.
I would use a Halltech intake and OBX headers with Borla Exhaust.

05s are fine unless you start doing a lot of drag racing and hard launches on the rear.
Plenty of 05s are out there without exploded rear-ends. You guys make it sound like it'll grenade when he puts his foot down....which it won't.

What changes were made to the 06 diffs from the 05's?

I have an 05 with A4 transmission. Mine is completely stock so I am not worried about my differential. But, the OP is looking to improve the performance. I think it is a fair statement to consider the 05 differential to be the weakest link in the drivetrain. He needs to do the research and know the facts before he goes too far. More horsepower increases the risk of differential failure....especially on a 2005 model.

For normal driving and spirited runs the 05 will be just fine.

From the issues I have seen the Differential issue is mostly with the MN6 manual transmission. And other possible issues seem much worse to me than have to replace the diff.

congrats on your new car!
as far as modifying goes:
always suspension first
then tires
then brakes
then engine/drivetrain
before getting too far into it, my best advice for you would be to go over the entire car with a fine tooth comb top to bottom. check for every mising screw any misaligned panels or missing panels, change out all the filters & fluids and try to get the car perfect (or at least to what you feel acceptable). Sometimes youll find little things with used cars that will add up to a big pain in the *** later on. Getting to know the car will take a lot of that out of the equation and also make it much easier on you in the future when youre fixing or modifying something.

Burning Brakes
I have an 05 and had no problems running it hard. I swapped the rear diff out when I put the A&A SC on and even then they told me chances are the rear diff would hold up fine unless I put sticky tires on and drag raced the hell out of it.
Enjoy your new ride. Like most of us this car has always been a dream vehicle so drive it and enjoy it. Caution...once the mod bug hits be ready to continuously empty that wallet.

What are your plans for the car? Is it a daily driver or weekend cruiser?? The first thing you really should do before spending any money is consider what you want the car to be in the end. By this I mean don't buy something you will end up replacing later. One mod that will work for you regardless of which direction you go is exhaust. CAI are fine as well. I have the Halltech system on mine and do notice an improvement. Really, the sky is the limit as far as performance is concerned. Another consideration would be shop tools. Build or buy jacking pucks and make sure you have a good low profile jack if you plan on working on your own car. Finally, just have fun and enjoy the ride!
