Default Getting info from the ECM, what do I need?

As stated, I want to be able to pull info from the ECM including codes. Is there software and a cord I can hook my laptop to? I don't want to tune, just look.

There are a number of devices to read and clear codes available. But that's all they do. These are available from many of the forum vendors.

Anything more than that, you will need HP Tuners or EFI Live. I have HP Tuners which does all that and more.

I agree. Any number of code readers, (CAN), that will read the codes from the ECU/PCM.

You can get a bluetooth transmitter or a regular cable to plug into the OBD port. It should come with the software to monitor codes and things like temps, speed, and rpms.

Auto Xray makes a scanner only unit, also the diablo predator will read and clear codes, show real time data, and tune if desired. I am not familiar with read only software for laptops. I think you can however go from the predator to your laptop to view data.

Go to the Scan and Tune Forum on this site. There are a number of possible options.

Do not waste your time or money on the OT-2. It will not read the OBDII on my car. Innovate "customer service" is no help.

hp Tuners sells a "dumbed down" cable that scans only, doesn't allow tuning.

http://www.hptuners.com/order.php

But with your cam, you'll want to tweak things and you'll end up wanting the tuner part as well. Trust me. It takes a lot of time to really dial in a car for street driving, and it's fun. It also helps a lot on the track if you do that. Just be sure to get a wideband. The HP Tuners forum has stickies that are very helpful to the newbie, and they have a very active forum for help.
