Default 2011 C6 Cross-Drilled Rotors (option J55)

For the base 2011 C6 Coupe, there is the $500 J55 option that gets you a set of Cross-Drilled Rotors. This is not the "Big Brake" option that comes with the Z51 package ... just the Cross- Drilled Rotors. In fact, the Z51 option is not even available on the base Coupes in 2011.

Here is what it says about this J55 rotor option:

"Engine performance is important, but stopping power is critical. For this reason, larger Cross-Drilled brake rotors, 13.4" front and 12.8" rear, are available on the Corvette® Coupe and Convertible. Cross drilling dissipates heat more quickly ... Also included with Magnetic Selective Ride Control".

However, you can buy C6 Cross-Drilled / Slotted Rotors from GM for a discounted price of $241 + shipping for the set from suppliers such as GM Part Direct (this is there latest price):

Right Front: P/N: 19183532
MSRP: $ 122
Discounted: $ 62

Left Front: P/N: 19183533
MSRP: $ 122
Discounted: $ 62

Left Rear: P/N: 19183534
MSRP: $ 113
Discounted: $ 58

Right Rear: P/N: 19183535
MSRP: $ 115
Discounted: $ 59

(Of course, these discounted prices do not include shipping)

Anyway, do you think that these rotors listed above are the same Cross-Drilled rotors that are used in the $500 J55 option for the 2011 C6 Coupe?

Thank's,
Ron

In a word, No.

The drilled/slotted rotors are a direct replacement for the base rotors. They are the same size.
The cross-drilled rotors on the J55 option are larger than base rotors and are the same as used with the previous Z51 option and the '07-'11 F55 option. Calipers/pads are the same for base and J55, as only the rotors and caliper brackets change.

If you want the larger brakes, check the parts forum for someone selling their's to upgrade to Z06 size.

HOXXOH ...

Thank's for the info. You say the J55 Cross-Drilled Rotor option on the 2011 Coupe gets you larger rotors than the stock rotors, [but] the calipers and pads are the same size as stock.

I certainly believe what your saying, but I can't see why GM would put on larger rotors on a car that doesn't use larger calipers/pads to match the size of the larger diameter rotors ... Makes no sense at all to me.

EDIT: Are the J55 optional rotors about an inch larger in diameter than the stock non-drilled base C6 Coupe rotors? (it says the J55 option has 13.4" front and 12.8" rear rotors) ... I guess I need to know the size of the stock rotors.

Std. (base) front 12.8
J55 front 13.4
Std. (base) rear 12
J55 rear 13

The rear J55 pistons in the calipers are a tad smaller than the Std. piston to compensate for the larger difference in rotors than on the front.
They are all stock from the factory. Some are options and some aren't.

The C6R rotors are carbon fiber and not a factory option.

Go here to learn more. http://corvetteactioncenter.com/ and click specs.

Yeah..but that would also require bigger whls. and tires for upgrade to Z06 brake calipers/disc.

I have Z51 calipers (J55 option) for your car, I pulled them off my 08 when swapping for pwd coated calipers. They are in #1 condition and never tracked or worked hard.

The front calipers and pads for a Z51 are 100% identical to the ones on a standard (base) car. The difference is only the rotors and caliper brackets.

The OP only needs rotors and brackets for the upgrade.

HOXXOH ... Thank's so much for the info

Just to make sure I have this right ... the old Z51 option (not available on the 2011 base C6) and 2011 base C6 calipers and brake pads are both the same size.

But, as far as rotors are concerned, the 2011 base C6 rotors are 12.8" (front) and 12.0" (rear) vs the larger 13"4" (front) and 13.0" (rear) rotors for both the $500 J55 option and the old Z51 option.

So, adding the $500 J55 larger drilled rotor option to a base 2011 coupe basically gives you the same brakes as the old Z51 option did.

Ron,

I still can't figure out how installing larger diameter rotors (as in the 2011 base coupe J55 option or in the old Z51 package) is going to give any better brakes when the same small size "base" calipers and pads are used with these larger sized rotors? ... make sense?

In my way of thinking, if you want better brakes, you need larger diameter rotors and larger sized calipers and pads to go with the big rotors.
