Default Goodyear Gatorback A/C belt -Wrong Part Number

Just wanted to give everyone headsup on a part not fitting.

I had decided to replace both my belts since I have the radiator out of my car.

The belt I removed is a GM 12579228 WDC - Mitsuboshi 4PK1040

The Goodyear 4040400 (4PK1015) is supposed to fit. It does not and is about 1 inch too short.
I checked this out and found that the Goodyear 4040410 which is also a 4PK1040 is the right one.

I called Goodyear and they acknowledged after checking the GM number that I was correct and they would be correcting the problem.
The problem is there must be 1000's of parts catalogs out there with the wrong part number

I was lucky- car is apart and on a lift- what would this be like on a road trip and not be able to get as close look as I was able to?

hmm, that's interesting and this is for an LS2 engine right? I wonder what Gene Culley would say about this.... If this is correct, and I have no reason to doubt you, you may even want to ask the moderators to move this thread to C6 Gen since that forum gets wider readership. Good info!

It's always easy to know if you have the right one. The part number is the size of the belt

4PK1040 = 4 rib, 1040mm (40.9in.)

4040410 = 4 rib, 0410=41.0 inches

The one I use on my truck is 04060887 = 6 rib, 88.7 inches

Thats great information !
In my case I ordered the belts and had them sitting in the garage for a month. If I had thrown them in the trunk and it had broken out in the middle of BFE I would not be a Happy Camper. I guess what I am trying to relay to everyone is- Check the part before installing and don't rely on just on what the book calls for or what the parts guy gives ya

LOL well they have 4040398 listed as the AC belt directly off their web site and the few places around that still carry them.
Looks like they are still "correcting" the problem.
Wish id have found the post BEFORE ordering and attempting to install it.

Ive always convinced people that being an inch shorter doesnt matter much ...
guess it really does matter

Well I was lucky- Car was on a lift and radiator was out giving me all kinds of room. I tried all kinds of ways to make it fit. According to the books it was the right one. They were very nice and apologetic when I explained the problem. 1 inch may as be a mile sometimes

I wish I had found this thread earlier in the week. I just received my Goodyear Gatorback order, Main Drive Belt 4060798 went on perfectly. AC Belt 4040400 is about 15 - 25 mm short. '06 C6 stock tensioners.

If I was you I would call Goodyear and complain. Tell them you know for a fact that on Feb 10,2011 someone complained and Goodyear acknowledged the problem.
Once again I will say it doesn't do much good if the mfrg. supplies the wrong part. I wonder how many others have had this problem?
Refer to my orginal message for all the details. I spent maybe 15 minutes with Goodyear on the phone informing them of this problem. I would of thought that they would have been greatful someone spent the time calling them.

Actually not GY's fault for this. I got the part numbers from a thread on one of the other forums while doing research on the "chirping / harmonic balancer" problem.

Yes but where did they get the number? Goodyear is the one with the wrong part number in thier catalogs. If you were to ask me for the Goodyear part number, I would do a Google search and get the number from Goodyear or some other interchange for the Gatorback belt.I would then end up with the wrong part.So if I went to Gates or another belt Mfr would the same thing happen? Only if I used the Goodyear number to use as an interchange. Bottom line is the part number Goodyear says fits isn't right.
