Default 6L80 conversion to 4L60..any info?

Hey guys I have a 06 with the 6L80 and would like to get as much info as possible on doing the swap...I've done numerous searches and haven't found too much info..I've heard the swap will cost over 10,000 and its a PITA.. And I've also heard its not that expensive and it's very easy to do

From my understanding, the most difficult part is the electronics and wiring....but I've heard that RPM makes a plug and play wiring harness.. ???

I know that I would need to get a trans controller but which one...

I'm sure I could sell my built 6L80 and drivetrain to offset the costs and just get a 4L60 drivetrain out of a 05... I have a RPM built diff, would I need a new diff or could I still use mine..

Has anyone done it and could provide more info on the swap and also have an idea on the price range for the swap..

Can't help you but.....curious why you are doing this. Not challenging your plan, just curious because I don't know why someone would go that direction. TIA

Don't feel that the 6L80 is up to par with my goals..and there's not much you can do to build them..

I have a forged motor going in the car and would like to hit it with at least a 200 shot and get her in the 9s..

Are you familiar with thesubfloor's posts here about his built 6l80 from Century. He's been in the 9's and got 400+ runs on the most recent one. Don't know it that means anything to you but just offering.

From what I have gathered talking with Christopher, it has a lot to do with RWHP. He is running an N/A LS7 where the direction the OP is going he will have more rwhp and a more violent launch on nitrous.

Kind of a little off subject, but if I don't like the new C7 I'm going to buy a C6 Z06 and I will want to put an A4 in it. I will keep up on this thread

I was in the same boat as you (considering a conversion) but there's really no need as the 6L80 can be built to reliably hold up to the abuse.

Even above 550-600 rwhp with 28" tall tires?

Sure, why not? I got 17 months and 434 low 10 second passes out of mine before it eventually let go. If it's built and tuned properly there's no reason it won't last as long as a built 4L65 (or even longer).

I know there are probably a lot of people out there who'll disagree, but I've talked to a few guys who don't even get one full season out of their 4L65 before having to rebuild it so I happen to think the 6L80 is more than capable of holding it's own again one.

On the flipside, if you stay below the 550rwhp threshold then the 6L80 can be made to last forever - my buddy's 2007 that runs 10.8's all day long with 1.44 60ft times has over 71K on the original trans and it still shifts perfectly every single time.

That's good info. So far mine has been fine except for a couple times it hit the limiter going from 2-3 after hot lapping. I still have to log and send you over my files.

Can't help with that as I don't know enough about what's involved.

Bumping the thread in case anybody has recently done it. There's more cold hard facts about bigfoot than an A6 to A4 swap yet a decent amount of people have done it.

I certainly wouldn't incur the costs associated with this swap in order to go to a 4L60. Either bite the bullet and go the 4L80 (requires some tunnel cutting and massaging) or put a glide in it.

From what I understand it's not getting the 4L60 to work with the car, it's getting the car to work without the 6L80 that's a pain in the ***. Once the car is wired to run with out a 6L80 you can put in anything. 4L60, 4L80, T56, 6060, glide.
