Default Brakes worn, replace with stock or upgrade?

I have a 2009 base Corvette (non-Z51) with 39k miles on it. Just replaced my rear tires yesterday and apparently my brakes are worn. Interestingly enough the rear pads are worn down more than the fronts. Anyway, apparently rotors are thin on these cars and I hear most people just replace them instead of resurfacing them? I was wondering if I should just stick with stock pads and rotors or if there's a suitable upgrade in the aftermarket that wouldn't cost much more?

This is a daily driver so I don't want to replace it with something that will wear any quicker or cost considerably more. I know that sometimes OEM is more expensive than aftermarket for less performance so if someone can recommend pads and/or rotors that will give me better stopping power or better wear for around the same price I'd love to hear it!

You can get replacement rotors pretty cheap. You won't find aftermarket rotors that are true performance upgrades for cheap. That said at least most aftermarket rotors are truly directional, whereas the stock GM units are not.

Unless you're tracking the car you are probably fine with replacement rotors. If you want better performance and truly directional rotors, I'd look at DBA rotors. There's a forum vendor here who can hook you up.

For pad options you need to ask yourself if you're willing to put up with more brake dust. If you're pads aren't dusting, they're not working very hard. If you're truly after performance, you have to put up with the extra dust.

oldmansan, OK, I'll probably stick with the stock rotors. Any recommendations where I should buy them for the best price?

I'm willing to put up with more brake dust for better performance since I wash the car every single week. But will I get reduced pad life out of better performing pads always?

I'd talk to Gene Culley here on the site for replacement stock rotors.

You will usually sacrifice some durability for better performance. For street use you may just want to go with a moderately aggressive pad to give you more performance with decent durability.

I run Carbotech Bobcat pads on my WRX and Axxis pads on my C6 (came with my Stoptech kit).

Did you read the OP's post? At $664 for a pair, I believe he'll pass.

Yes, I did read the OP's post, but these rotors are a good bang for the buck IMO! I have over 100,000 miles on my 07 with no problems.

I've read good things about those rotors and hats, but I believe that's a bit out of his price range, especially for normal street use.
