Default Carbotech XP12/10's on street only 2006 z51?

Ok, I'm getting my brakes done.

Should I be cautious of installing Carbotech XP12/10's on my 2006 Z51?

I am getting centric rotors, steel lines, and a brake fluid flush.

I'm wondering if these pads are simply too aggressive or what? Will I be screwing up major by putting these in, or whatever?

P.S. - I drive pretty hard on the street at times.

I run XP6 and AX8s and they are NOOOOOOISY! It is actually embarassing to pull up to a light. I don't recommend any Carbotech race pad for the street.

Hmm. Ok.. Maybe I'll do the Hawk HPS's then.

They'll squeal like a pig and overpower your street tires. They are also dirty. Other than that they are great on the track and with race rubber.

I run the Carbotech 1521's on the street and XP10 F&R for track. I'll sometimes leave the race pads on between events and run them on the street. It won't hurt them but you need to be aware. Running the 1521's allows me to use the same rotors when going to the XP pads without re-bedding between changes as the compounds are compatible.

Well I'm actually at TPS getting my brakes done and realized the XP's were too much. They have Hawks on hand and they are good.

I'll probably sell the XP12/10 combo then to recoup the cost. They are new if anyone is interested.

do the race pads perform any worse due to the lower temps seen on the streets

I haven't noticed that they do but I drive differently if I have the XP10's installed. I brake much harder and in a shorter distance to put heat into the pads and also to keep them bedded and not making noise. I try to not drag the peddle. If you do this, keep in mind that people behind you may not be able to stop if they are close and following your lead on when to brake. I've found the Carbotech pads to be very rotor friendly.

depends on the pad... some of the more aggressive pads won't warm up on street and have less stopping power than your typical street pad when cold. My experience with Carbotechs is that they have excellent cold stopping power (at least with the XP10s up front).

Running track pads on street is just silly though... unnecessary and they can eat up your rotors. Those who think they drive "aggressive" on the street to justify running track pads probably have never been to a track day.

I put on the Hawk's. I agree, that one of my concerns was that I'd wear the rotors irregularly, then just cost myself more money.

According to the Carbotech website, here is the list price:

XP12 Front Brake Pads: $226
XP10 Rear Brake Pads: $177

Total: $403

Make me an offer. Shipping will probably be $15.00 ground.

I just installed this combo, for the weight and power our cars posess these work fantastic. Much more initial bite than the AX6 and more fade resistant.

In bedding the AX6 it took 5 or 6 60-10mph runs and they were fading. These XP 12/10 withstood 5 60-10 runs then 5 100-10 runs and still did not fade but I was out of usable road.
