Default LS-3's need to worry!

WE now need some mods to stay with the new 2011 GT 500.
Ford has upped the antie!
I saw one compared to a Z06. I hope the thing was pulleyed.
Because a Base C-6 or Grand Sport would be toast. Ran pretty
surprizingly close to a Z.

Eh I wouldnt be too worried. Those cars are still pretty heavy and cost a lot more than a base model vette. Some bolt ons will be enough to take care of it.

I don't know brotha. H/C/I LS3 ~500-515 rwhp is about equal to a pulley/intake/tune/ported blower/LTs GT500 ~ 630-650rwhp. I think it's going to a take a mooded C6Z or a LS3 w/some boost to handle that BEAST.

I bet the dealers around here will want over 100K for one of those, seriously. Last one I saw the dealer markup was more than the sticker price.

I saw a article from Motor Trend and they said 12.3 in the 1/4 mile also one of the Mustang Forums were predicting low 12's. It's only up 10HP over last years model and torque stayed the same. It shaved about 120lbs from the front due to the all new aluminum 5.4 but I think a bolt on Base C6 or GrandSport would still be able to handle it.

That new GT500 will be faster than the one it replaces and in the right hands it could give an LS3 C6 (also in the right hands) a good run in a straight line.
But until a pure bone stock one runs an 11.7 or quicker than it's still in second place in my opinion.

Nah, in the beginning it was pretty bad but the basic GT500s sell for MSRP or only slightly above now usually.
The KR or Super Snake models are the ones that bring a REAL premium though.

You're right. My local dealer had a KR and it was 60k or so and dealer markup was 70k!

IMO there's some merit to the "still a mustang" argument. I've owned two mustangs and I'm not hater by any stretch, but paying the premium for an exotic on a car that is available in a base model V6 is a hard one for me to swallow. I realize a Z06/ZR-1 is "still a corvette," but at least the base model is a "real" sports car. Just my $.02

a couple years after the first GT500's came out, they became heavily discounted. These will probably too. To me, a C6 is more "grown up". No offense to anyone. I used to be a latemodel Mustang fanatic myself.

True, but I think his point might've been that the performance of the 4 door version is very likely damn near identical to that coupe's.

118 trap in that vid tells a story. It's darn close to a base LS3. No different than in the late 80's/early 90's.

Us LS3 guys might have to worry about the new 5.0 GT. Here's one with stock intake and manifolds that ran 11s with a 2552 DA. Don't think an LS3 can do that. Can't imagine how with more weight and less power.

What are you talking about?? LS3's have already gone faster than that car, BOX STOCK. The car in your example had:
4.30 gear
Magnaflow street cat back/X pipe
Wheels/drag radials
Upper and lower control arms that right now I don't think are doing anything but transmitting more driveline noise, but they will help later when the car can actually leave hard.
Removed sway bar
And tuned of course
What are LS3's with gear, exhaust, slicks, and susp running? Heck of a lot faster than 11.97 at 116!

EDIT: You don't "correct for DA". I don't anyway, otherwise I'd be correcting for 8000' DA's.

Ok so he had a "gear"! His 60' was no better than an LS3 and that's where gears mostly shine. My LS3 doesn't spin my tires so slicks would do nothing for me. He took the front sway bar off. Ok so now he's down to only 400# heavier than my LS3. Catbacks have shown to do nothing for an NPP LS3s. Maybe a catback works for the 5.0.

How many stock LS3s run 11s? Two, and I bet in very low DAs? He did this in August. Most run low 12s so a stock LS3 better watch out for a geared 2011 5.0 with a tune and catback. I haven't seen a stock LS3s run 11s with a 2552 DA even with a tune. I couldn't hit an 11 until I got intake and headers. The 5.0 did it with factory.

That's what I'm talking about!

And by that logic a geared 2011 5.0 with a tune and catback better watch out for a geard LS3 with a tune and catback. Not to mention a bolt-ons or cam'd LS3.

That 5.0 is definately quick for those little mods but the LS3 can be too. If we're comparing stock to stock, a GT 500 vs LS3 will be a driver's race with edge to the LS3. Stock 5.0s aren't a threat. If we're talking modded, well then everything gets thrown out the window because any of the cars can be modded and who the hell knows what you're lining up against. I'll take the Vette all day, regardless of what the Mustang does to beat it. JMO
