I only use floor jacks if I'm just changing the oil or something quick, if I lift the car very high or I'm going to be moving around I use jack stands.

Get a decent 1.5 ton at sears, and get one of those harbor freight small alum jacks for sneaking into places just so you can get the heavy jack under.

I bought my sears jack in 1975 never did anything to it except use the hell out of it still works like new.

I don't think the harbor freight or the cheaper one I got from advanced auto will last as long.

The advance auto works OK but it's not as sturdy as the old sears jack with the same capacity.

If you do not have a lift. Light weight break apart race ramps, coupled with an aluminium low profile jack and jack stands works well.

I made a set of ramps out of 2 by 6's that i already had. Cost - 0 $.
I also have 2 floor jacks and 4 jack stands, works very well.

rhino ramps in front and 2x12's stacked as high as you need with 45 degree cuts to ramp up on each level of height.

I also have a friend with a home lift who's probably forgotten more about cars than I'll ever know. I value his knowledge, his lift and his willingness to help.
