Which Trans is Better for Drags
I have an 05 (A4) that I drag race about twice a month... I want to stay with an Auto as they are much more consistent for drag racing, & thats what I do with my car most of the time...
I have a chance to get a 2007 LS2 but its the (A6).. I have never driven an A6 and am trying to decide if I'd be better off with an A6 or the A4 for "Drag Racing" THAT IS THE PRIORITY!
I need some help on if I'm better off with the A4 or make a deal on the 07 with an A6 trans...
Both cars have app the same mileage, and I'm not concerned with the options... just which would be better for 1/4 mile ?

for bracket racing it really shouldn't matter..The a4 has less drivetrain loss and is lighter, but the gearing stock for stock is better in the a6

Just curious, what do you mean by less drivetrain loss??? Are talking about less power loss as it passes thru the drive train to the rear wheels??? :o

My A4 only shifts 2 times in a run, the guys with A6 say it shifts 3 times they cross the finish line in 4th and that is still not 1-1 ratio,,,
My A4 shifts 2 times & I cross the finish in 3rd gear it is 1-1... Also I see posts where the A6 is for lack of a better word... "lazy" in shifting.. I may be partial to the A4 because I also ran a C4 with a A4 and did real well with it..
My C6 is also doing well & is consistent, & I'm honestly afraid to go to something that may be nicer on the street, but give me problems in consistency on the track...
Look at the Super Gas class (9.90) most are running 2 speed powerglid trannys.. I try to use the KISS (Keep It Simple Stupid) whenever I can...
Sure I'd like a newer car, but I honestly don't have any complaints with my 05... I guess I'm talking myself to stick with what I have, unless I hear the A6 is definitely a better drag race trans...

But as far as simplicity and more importantly, ease of tuning, the A4 is the clear winner.
Though I do still love my A6 and my car's track performance is truly stellar (quickest bolt ons only Corvette A6 and the only bolt ons only A6 in the 10s (so far)), I've been very impressed by the A4 cars that I've driven as well.
I would stick with the A4 if I were you.
If I were buying a used C6 for drag racing right now it would be a 2005 A4 for sure, they're the cheapest to buy and the A4 is the easiest to modify for serious duty with how far the strengthening/building of the 4L60/4L65 has come as of late.
The only down side is the 2005's weaker rear but that's easily upgradeable as well.

With the 2.56 gear you can cross the stripe in 3rd with your MTs if your shift points are at or above 6500 for 1st and 2nd. The A6 is underdrive the full quarter for a higher average RPM and more time in the top end of the HP curve. I'm guessing with your 3.15 gear you cross the line under 5000 rpm, so you never reach anywhere near high HP in 3rd.
Last time out, I ran 11.56 (1st pass to test the traction/heat the tires), then 11.51, 11.49, and 11.50 at high 121's and low 122's.
I'd personally hold out for an LS3, just to make it easier to fit the lower end of the bracket with less mods.

It really doesn't make sense to just go from one C6 LS2 (A4) to another C6 LS2 (A6), if one is going to go through all of the hassles associated with selling/trading a used car then they should at least get the newer motor (LS3) with it as well.

I just found this post and wanted to dig it back up!!! I will be in the market for another vette in the next 6-9 months, and was wondering the same thing,Will the 05 with the A4 make a better bracket car or a
A6 probally a 08 model, not so worried about HP difference in the two, because more than likely i will be moding it any ways, from what ive been reading the A6 cars been scaring me some with reliabilty and consitecys for drag racing purposes( AND I MEAN BRACKET RACING)

If you plan to heavily mod (500+ rwhp) then plan to mod the tranny too. Staying in the lower 400-450 hp range won't be an issue for either car.

FYI, I took my 2007 A6 to the track 3 times in the last 2 weeks to see what it will do completely stock. best time was 12.992@110mph. It did NOT go into 4th.

A6 or A4? Hmm, I wonder which one I'd prefer...
Although I do prefer the A6 it hasn't been an easy ride as I'm currently on my 8th transmission. Fortunately however the new Alto clutches in trans #8 have been holding up quite well and as you can see from the Pinks pictures they definitely let the car launch extremely well.
