Guys that have lower gears only please // need help choosing gears
My 2005 rearend is leaking and Im going to go ahead and replace it before it breaks. I think Im done with this car in terms of mods. I have 470 at the wheels and 430 tq. Its a 402 stroker motor with 240/244 cam on 115 lsa and the only thing I might add down the road is a fast intake. Im not going to add any power adders in the future.
This is my daily driver and I drive it pretty hard at times on the street but dont plan on taking it to the track.
Im upgrading to a 06 and up rear and trying to choose between 3.73, 3.90 and 4.10 gears.
What would you guys recommend for my application and why? Thanks!

I have an 08 with 4.10s and probably 430ish rwhp. I love the gears and see no downside to the 4.10s. Maybe if you drag it, it may make a difference in the timing of the 4th gear shift on the track, but I just drive on the street. If you go with 4.10s, get some nice sticky tires. I have Nitto 555rs 18x335s. I really like these too for street driving. I can tell you that with only 430rwhp, this car still moves like it has much more with the 4.10s and good tires. You can use all the hp and the gears keep it in powerband better. Even 6th gear is useful. I do run at about 2000 rpms in 6th at 70mph, so I am sure I lost some MPG, but that's not why I bought this car.
Good luck with your decision.

I have 410 on my 06. COW did the install. I can tell you that they made a big difference. It revs quick and pulls very strong. I have scene added a maggie and have over 500 to the wheels. You will need a sticky set of tires if you like to push the car

4.10 here. Car feels like I added another 40RWHP/TQ. Chuck COW says
he would put 4.88's in if they had them. With 4.10's at 60MPH the Car
cruises at 1500 RPM and that gives me 31.5MPG w 461RWHP. It is really having the best of both worlds.

best c6m6's are crossing the finish line at around 131 MPH. Most of them are running the 4.10 Gears.

I have the 08 ls3 with MN6 and 4.10's. At 70 mph tach reads 1800 rpms. Not sure about 80 mph still breaking in the differential. So far I like the 4.10's. Gas mileage seems to have dropped at least a couple of mpg. If gas mileage is real important this is not the mod for you. The gearing now seems more natural and usable while driving. The stock 3.42 always felt a little long to me but offered outstanding fuel milage. Once the diff. gets broken in I'll take my drive down to Morro Bay and know just how much I lost in regards to fuel. I suspect that it will still be above 26 mpg. I got 28.5 with the 3.42's.

The different gear ratios in the Z51 is certainly a variable most take into consideration and a topic that always come up during gear discussions. I'm not sure if there is a history between the two of you but turbo's questions are definately things you should be thinking about. Some feel 4.10s w/Z51 is too much and that 3.90/Z51 is perfect. Others love their 4.10/Z51 and wouldn't have it any other way. What is usually given as criteria is how you plan on driving the car. With frequent track (1/4 mile) racing, we have been told to gear for our desired trap speed. If it will be strictly a street driven car, the decision is less involved, as both will give excellent improvements. The best thing would be to take a ride in both, if possible. However given the small difference between the two, you probably wouldn't notice anything until triple digit speeds and/or shifting at the track.
