Default Z06/Grand Sport

I know the G/S has the body, wheel size, dry-sump oiling system of the Z06. Does it also share the brakes, clutch, manual trans, and rear diff with the Z06? Anybody know?
TIA
Jeff

It shares all but the frame and the engine as far as I know. The GS has the removeable roof where the Z06 does not.

The Z06 also has the battery in the rear. Not sure about the GS.

doesn't the oil tank reside where the battery would under the hood?

Not sure. I've never seen the engine bay of a GS.

The dry sump is only on the manual trans coupes. Not on verts, Not on autos. Yes this moves the battery to the trunk and it is the newest version oil tank in the passenger fender. Same exact brakes execpt silver calipers vs. red on Z.

Same transmission in all manual 2005-2008 C6 Corvettes.

Same transmission in all manual C6 Corvettes 2008-2010.

Different manual transmission gearing in the Z51 equipped and grand sport C6, than in the base manual and Z06.

Same 3.42 differential gears in all manual C6 Corvettes.

Great info. Still wonder if the diff is from a standard coupe or the Z06?
Thanks Guys

I am pretty sure that while it is a wide body it does not have the carbon fiber fenders like the Z06.

I believe that is also correct. I seem to remember reading that they were not carbon to save money.

It has the standard diff, not the one from the Z06.

Seems to be the one going. If you can't swing the Z, then I guess the GS is a real good choice.

...or if you prefer the removable roof panel and shorter gearing of the Z51.

If my car didn't have only 8k on it I would get the GS. That being said, is the factory dry sump a good system or window dressing?

It's the newer version but at least one major vendor has expressed less than flattering comments about the Z06 dry sump system, which is the same as the GS' from what I've read. You'll find better information on the Autocrossing and Roadracing forum, as well as information on the LS3 oiling issues. PM me if you want a bit more detail.

Driving fast enough isn't usually the issue. High G-force cornering (especially left-hand corners) is.

Dry sump is a non-issue for me as for probably 99.9% of potential GS owners. Removable roof panel and Z51 gearing are BIG factors favoring the GS over the Z06 in my book.
