Default Problems with window indexing and door pad.

Guys,

Went to the local carwash the other day to pressure wash my car. After I was done, I started having problems. The window indexing kept going up and down after closing the door. Somehow I got it to stop. Then the window wouldn't index up all the way. The door wouldn't open, though I heard the clicking inside. Then the window wouldn't go much more than halfway up.

What the heck is going on? I already disconnected and reconnected the battery to see if that would help. No luck!

Any help is appreciated.

One possibility . . . you may have a defective Exterior Door Handle Switch.

You can test it by replacing (swapping) it with the switch from the passenger door - very easy to remove (2 phillips screws).
If it works properly, you simply replace the switch.

You can purchase the Exterior Door Handle Switch
from Gene Culley (GMPartsHouse.com) at this link:

Hope this helps!

I had a similar issue with the passenger window. After picking up the car from the dealer for some warranty work the passenger window started acting up. It would index repeatedly when I tried to roll the window up ending up about 1/2" down from closed. I tried re-indexing and disconnecting the battery, then the door wouldn't open from the inside. I spent a couple hours messing with it before I gave up. The next day I took it back to the dealer who spent about a half hour troubleshooting it. They ended up replacing the door handle switch and then all was well again. The door handle switch was malfunctioning and telling the cars computer that the door was open, even when it was obviously closed.

Hope that helps.

Default I had the same problem...

Swapped the switches and the problem moved. Cleaned the contacts and it was OK for a couple of days.

Spent 32.00 on two new switches and replaced them both. No more problem.

I read on this forum that if one switch fails you should replace them both.

Buy new switches.... and be done with it.

Thanks a lot guys! I suspected it was the door switch as well. I'll take it to the dealer and hopefully they'll replace them both.

Have a great day!

Guys,

I swapped the switches and indeed, now the problems have moved to the driver's door. I ordered 2 of them ($13 each) and should pick them up tomorrow. Thanks for all the help.

I installed 2 new door switches and after the install my car wouldnt start. I then re-installed the old ones and it then fired right up. I called gm parts where I bought them from and they told me that the new door switches have to be reprogrammed by GM. Can anyone else confirm this???? I havent read anything on here that has matched with this info.
