I am learning a lot listening to you guys on cam specs. How bad is surging and bucking at low RPMs when you get to 4 degrees overlap? Let's say for instance I buy the LG G6XE, aggressive cam right? How will it drive? Annoying? Is it safe?

How about the G6X3? How will the car drive? I have never experienced a cammed car so I have no idea what bucking and surging feels like... Is it kind of like a bad o2 censor? Will the car feel like it's cutting out at low rpms, jerking around a lot?

I'm very new to all of this.

Mike

LG cams specs arent public although most of the specs you can get from other members. The G6X3 is 16+degrees overlap and doesnt drive the same as a 4 degree overlap cam would.

For the G6XE and G6X3 characteristics you should call LG.

No cam thats tuned right will be stalling or cutting out. At a low RPM like 1600rpm (cruise on the hiway) you can feel a slight bucking for cams with huge overlap. I dont like cams that do this so I design smaller ones for daily life. 4 degree overlap cams dont do this if tuned right. I know a bad tune will have all sorts of problems but since a 4 degree overlap cam has been tuned for zero issues, that means it can be tuned that way in your car. I draw the line in the sand at 4 degrees so thats all I work with. Track results for the C6 with my cam run with the best out there so I dont see what the point is in getting something aggressive.

If you want all out power, you can get a bit more power by going with big overlap cams. Personally I dont think its worth a few more HP to use such a cam.

Please keep in mind that I dont sells cams or do cam installs so its of no consequence to me which cam you buy or run in your car. I simply offered another choice for people looking for one.

Default spins cam preliminary results

I picked up my 08 today with basically the same mods as Spin outlined and have been discussed extensively here and can say there are no drivability issues on my car so far with this cam. As with any cam install a good dyno tune is essential. Because the temperature was in the low 40's and rain was moving in I did not get a chance to push the car hard as I wanted to get it home and under cover. I did get to put 50 to 60 miles of in town and expressway miles on it today. It still has the stock summer performance run flats and traction under throttle is practically nonexistant at these temps with this package of mods.

With the Z51 packages 3.42 rear gears I usually leave lights in 2nd gear under light throttle. I would expect any drivability problems under light throttle (bucking) in a cammed car would be amplified by this and my spin cammed car behaves just like the stock cam did under these conditions.

As far as how the cam sounds at idle. It does not have what I would call a heavy lope. At 850 RPM idle with the secondarys in the dual mode closed you can tell it has a cam if you listen but it does not rock the car. With the dual mode overridden open it definately sounds like a cammed car. The sound clip big turkey posted matches my car exactly with the dual mode overridden. Personally this package is exactly what I was looking for.

7.425"

The cam's base circle is .060" smaller diameter than stock, so its .030" smaller radius. A 7.430" is best but 7.425 is usually the closest stocked size at most vendors.

I apologize for resurrecting a thread, but can someone tell me where to purchase this cam? I read through the entire thread and I'm highly impressed. Thanks ahead of time.

I'm pretty sure there are some vendors that carry it now, otherwise look at this.

Just read the Specs and order it thru HINSON. iF You are still confused just contact SPIN. With Spins level 1 Cam a great driving Cam is what I went with. I however wish I went with the 230/234 which he suggested.
I dont regret the 228/232 but it has many ls2's making 450+ RWHP. I
still may change to a 230/234 if I dont go FI . With the Trick Flow 225's
I would be looking for 520 RWHP+. Good luck. Leon

Wishing you went bigger is a common afterthought after camming your car.

Well, I ordered the cam. Called Comp and had it custom ground. Should be at the house in about a week. Car will be at the house in about a week and a half along with the exhaust. Then it's off to the shop it goes to get installed, and then on the dyno shortly thereafter

Maybe I missed it, but how would this do in an A6 with stock stall?

I wouldn't put very much duration on an A6 with the stock stall....probably no more than mid 220s

Do they charge you guys the full $410? Most any of us vendors can do a custom cam for you for less if they are.

Came out to 410.34 I believe. I also ordered new springs, so the price went through the roof by the time I was done.

Thats why I suggested ordering the cam from Hinson. They give you the deal and stand by the sale.

Does anyone actually stock this cam at this point or is still a custom order? How close is the PTV clearance with this on the LS3? Anything to worry about?
