C6 removing seats. Disabling SIR / disconnected battery
I'm working on replacing the carpet in my 2005 C6 and need to remove the seats. Can I do the following procedure with the battery disconnected. I want to disconnect the battery anyway so the battery doesn't go dead. Blowing out an AIRBAG would SUCK
This is the info on disconnecting the LF side seat.
SIR Disabling and Enabling Zone 7
Procedure
This is the info on disconnecting the LF side seat.
SIR Disabling and Enabling Zone 7
Procedure
- Turn the steering wheel so that the vehicle's wheels are pointing straight ahead. Place the ignition in the OFF position.
Remove the kick-up panel (2) to expose the instrument panel (I/P) fuse block. Remove the I/P fuse block cover (1).
Important
With the SDM fuse removed and the ignition in the ON position, the AIR BAG warning indicator illuminates. This is normal operation, and does not indicate an SIR system malfunction.
Locate the SDM fuse within the I/P fuse block. Remove the SDM fuse from the I/P fuse block.
Remove both connector position assurance (CPA) (3) from the LF/driver side impact module and pretensioner yellow connector (1) which is located under the driver seat. - Disconnect the vehicle harness yellow connector (2) from the LF side impact module and pretensioner yellow connector (1).
- Place the ignition in the OFF position.
Connect the vehicle harness yellow connector (2) to the LF side impact module and pretensioner yellow connector (1). Install both CPA's (3) to the LF side impact module and pretensioner yellow connector (1).
Install the SDM fuse into the I/P fuse block. imstall the I/P fuse block cover (1). Install the kick-up panel (2) to cover the I/P fuse block (1). Use caution while reaching in and place the ignition to the ON position. The AIR BAG indicator will flash then turn OFF. - Perform the Vehicle System Check if the AIR BAG warning indicator does not operate as described.

I unbolted the front two nuts. Powered the seat forward. Unbolted the two rear. Layed a towel across the door sill. Tipped seat sideways. Unhooked the electrical connectors. Pulled seat out. Never even disconnected the battery.

You could probably take the seat out another 100 times like that without blowing the bag but seen as you have the procedure to hand and it takes literally 5 minutes I would take the cautious route and disable the system. I did it this week when doing some work to my HUD.
Battery, fuse, connector under dash and connector under seat. Piece of pi55.

Like it says the fuse is located in the passenger footwell. I used to pull the battery cable but leaving the doors open doesn't discharge the battery enough to worry about so I just pull the fuse now. I do this several times per year so here is a picture of where the fuse is located and a pdf file on how to take the driver side seat out. Passenger side is pretty much the same. The picture has an arrow to the seat circuit breaker but the SDM fuse is clearly shown near the center of the picture.
