Default Help me build a mean N/A A4

Hello all,

I am trying to figure out what options would be best for my car. I have a 2005 Coupe, LS2, A4 that is soon to have a Vararam, Texas-speed Headers and off road mid pipe, and borla stingers installed. Now, I need to figure out where I want to go next. I don't want to change the transmission, or go forced induction because it's my daily driver.

From what I've read so far, I think my next mods will be a ported FAST92 intake and TB, then later a cam swap. But, I have no idea what cam. What do you suggest for someone who wants to maintain drive-ability, not lose a ton of gas mileage, and doesn't want it really loud and choppy?

Another option I've considered is switching to the Ls3 (L92) heads with the FAST 102mm (then porting) and adding a cam.

Between those two, or other ideas, what kind of gains and costs should I expect?

Thanks,
Chris

If you don't have outragues goals this would be easy. A well matched heads, cam, and intake package could give you 450rwhp or so with pretty tame idle and great drivablity. The L92 heads are a great option for something like this. I have a set here thats going on a 427ci LS3 deal that flow 380 on the intake.

We are in the same boat, but what do u want better 1/4 or more power if you want faster times go with gears and a torque converter if you want more power go with cam and headers.

If you have the money do the heads and cam at the same time. No need to pay labor two or three times when you can do it all at once.

If you are interested in the 1/4 check out the list (sticky) in this section. There are many A4 Corvettes on the list. It should give you some idea what to expect from differnt mods.

Thanks all for the replies.

For now, I am not really interested in the 1/4, I just want a really powerful and fast street car.

Maybe I should rephrase a bit:

Should I keep the stock heads and go with a cam and FAST 92, or should I go with a cam, LS3 heads, and the FAST 102? The second option is obviously more expensive, so what kind of power difference should I expect for each option?

If you are not wanting to go all out. My car is pretty fun on the street. I've got: 160 stat, Lingenfelter CAI (or your choice), FAST 92 ported by Spinmonster, ported and polished TB (by me), LG Pros LT's, Z06 cans, and of course a tune. Haven't put it on a dyno, but I'd guess it should be close to 400hp to the rear wheels. All of the above mods can easily be done in your garage. It feels plenty strong on RF's. Throw in some 3:73 gears and really hold on. My .02

I know you are focused on HP, but the A4 really gains a lot by starting with the rear. Gears make a big difference as would a torque converter. Since you won't do the converter, get 3.73s (or 3.90s) before buying a ported FAST and TB.

What will 3.73s do for top speed, as well as gas mileage?

Also, what cam will give me what i want with stock heads, and the 92mm FAST?

3.73s are very good for performance between 0 - 130. My observation of the 4L60e in the F-body is that frequent 3-4 WOT upshifts tend to wear out the stock clutch packs quickly. If you regularly drive above 130, consider matching your gearing so that you don't upshift to 4th. Gas mileage impact is minimal in town; about 1 - 2 mpg on the highway.

I don't think the fast 102 is worth it in your case of not wanting an aggressive cam...in that case it's between cam and fast 92 or l92 heads and cam, which the later will cost a little more, but will make slightly more power too. It sounds like you have a nonz51 w/ 2.73 rearend gears, if that's the case then I'd go 3.42. If you have 3.15, then I'd consider 3.73. Either way you can do the gears later, but I'd recommend them especially if you're not considering a converter. Which also means you want a small cam(under 224 on the intake) otherwise it'll be a dog off the line. Stick w/ something on a 114-116 lsa to keep the chop down. I personally run a 218/230 on a 116 that sounds just like stock.

We have done several 05's with our Stinger Cam, 3200 Stall, Kooks headers, ported Intake &TB, Callaway. Heads and Fast intake would go 10's
