Default MAMBA AIR INTAKE - Any Info

Folks,

I have been reading through all the threads regarding CAI's and appreciate all the knowledge and info.... However I don't see anything about the Mamba Air Intake system mentioned.

Anyone have any opinions/experience? Not trying to create a debate, just info on the Mamba.

Thanks.

I haven't heard of that one, just googled it - $699!

Holy sh*t! I just Googled it too. At $699, plus the air scoop for $119, and whatever these parts are, needed to retrofit to an LS2, you're looking at almost $1k for a CAI!!

Yeah, Damn expensive for that pretty Carbon Fiber. Had not heard of it either until I saw it on the web. Probably won't warp though. lol

Just saw this thread. Yes it has been in development for 3 years and it is real 2x2 Carbon Fiber. It is built in a Autoclave just like the Indy car chassis and it works. The LS2 gets expensive because we update the MAF sensor to the new one that is used in the new LS3, LS7 and LS9 and eliminate the older style MAF sensor. It is a big expense, but nobody else's air intakes have done this. The filter had to be custom made and it is the biggest one out there so far unless there is something I have not seen. You also do not have to worry about check engine lights being set like some of the others. It is also not made out of plastic or faux Carbon Fiber, this is the real thing and the real Carbon Fiber can be expensive, but you do get what you pay. You will pay more the half of the price of his box for Vacuum formed plastic the deforms after about 2 months. Any ways if you have any questions please feel free to ask.
Thanks
Justin

$700 isn't bad if it doesn't warp like some other CAI's. I'd rather pay a few hundred dollars more if it won't warp or shift or need constant attention. Any quarter mile numbers with this intake?

You are not going to have to worry about warping, they make Brake caliper ducts out of this material. It is strong enough that they use it in race cars, airplanes etc. As far as drag strip times I have not run one out there yet where that has been the only A/B test of the unit. Also the problem with testing A/B at the strip is other variables also. On the dyno with my 06 LS2 I gained 26 hp to find I was only running about 14 degrees of timing which ended up being a bad IAT sensor in the MAF. I was showing a air temp of 320 degrees. I will be going back to the dyno this week to get a couple of runs in with the new MAF and then play with the timing table and see what see will get.
Thanks
Justin

Starting to look like a viable option. Looking forward to numbers and real life experience.

I have a 2013 427 vert that I installed the Mamba intake and fresh air scoop on. It was pricey but effective. I did not tune the car yet and am debating as it is still under warranty. Fit and finish is stunning. You do get what you pay for in this instance. To date (4KMi) no issues and no codes

I've installed the Mamba, with air scoop option on our 427 vert. Also used the smooth silicone power coupler as what the hell, when you're $880+ in, why stop now. It is expensive - it is sexy- and it is effective. I noticed the diff immediately. I then had a friend who has a bone stock 427 to compare. He said the throttle response was more immediate and aggressive. I've not tuned the car to date but will likely do so at some point. No complaints to date and no codes (4KMis)

I got all the parts through ZIP-Corvette. It was a tight fit. I was almost tempted to forego the clamps
Zip p/n was PM-599 - Gloss red. Different colors are available. My Beast is torch red so I'm starting a theme under the hood

You need our red silicone coolant hoses.

LOL - you guys will be getting plenty of my business - as you have in the past. I've got a whole "wish list" put together.
I wish you had a better selection of carbon fiber fuel rail covers for the LS7

I'm very satisfied to date. Performance improvement and lots of comments at the car shows. Would recommend going all in and getting the scoop option, especially if you're running the LS7. Worse case is adding a tune if you have an LS3. Don't know if I would have chosen this set-up if I had an LS2.
