Default New c6 What rpm should I shift?

I have a new c6, 6 speed. At what rpm should I shift to the next gear to maximize acceleration? Ive notice sometimes im on 6th gear on the freeway and I punch it but it doesnt give me the acceleration I expect. I know I have to down shift. Any suggestions? Oh and how can I make it peel out with out hurting the transmission or burning the tires out to much? Thanks.

If its a Z51 cruising at 60mph drop it down to 3rd.
If its a non-Z51 cruising at 60mph drop it to 2nd.

I even drop mine to 2nd at 70mph if i really wanna blow the doors off the guy next to me.

Why would it mess up the trans?
2nd gear in non Z51 manual corvettes is good for about 84mph at redline. As long as you bring the rpms up before releasing the clutch after the gear change it should launch like a rocket. at 50-60mph IF I want to leave I will go for 2nd, if at 70 or so I will usually go for 3rd.
Mine is not the Z51 trans.
