If it's for auto use, SA rating is for automotive, more fire resistant, supose to be better for head to roll bar or structure impacts too than a motorcycle helmet.

Can an open face helmet still meet the requirements or does it have to be a full face helmet now?
In other words is it possible to find an open face helmet that is also labeled with the latest/most up to date Snell/DOT ratings?

www.saferacer.com as stated above SA ratings are for automotive use DO NOT waste your time or money on a M or DOT rated helmet. The SA rating will cover you for all automotive events.

Price is only one consideration
To answer your question about open face or closed face. As long as the helmet has a SA2000 or SA2005 rating it doesn't matter. By the way, the SA2000 rated helmets will not be allowed after 2010. All helmets have a 10 or 11 year life, actually shorter, for race track approval.
There are lots of other considerations concerning helmets, forced ventilation, integrated radio, Han's clips, Han's devices, etc.
Expect to pay $250+ for an open face helmet by Bell or Simpson, $400+ for a closed face helmet. Add a couple of hundred for forced air or integrated radio. Then there are the carbon fiber helmets that start at $3K or so.
Remember, here isn't where you want to go bargain basement.

I would recommend that you find a local dealer that can properly fit the helmet to your head. The helmet needs to be fairly snug or it won't protect you correctly. The helmets also vary a bit by manufacturer as to how well they fit certain shaped heads.
