Default Anyone try the E3 spark plugs?

I admit it, I watch Horsepower TV and Muscle Car on TV on saturday mornings with my cup of coffee. They tested E3 spark plugs and pickup up 8 hp on the dyno. Lokks like E3 is also a sponsor along with a number of other brand names. The HP TV guys are adding these plus with cold air intakes and headers. But just because its on TV does not make it true.

Has anyone tried these?

I have one in my lawn mower, but it is not starting on one pull again, factory champion plug lasted much longer.

You would think someone would eventually design a better spark plug. I would be interested to see any info as well. They advertise them everywhere but if they suck in a lawn mower, damn.

well a lawn mower isn't the best testing ground for a spark plug. lol but the only thing i know about them is on horsepower tv they got an 8 hp gain on the dyno from them they didn't do any long tests on them all though todays show they put them in a police charger

The E3 looks like an interesting design, for the price they should be gold plated. Personally I like the NGK TR6 for FI and modded cars and the NGK TR55 for the stockers. At a 1.99 a plug who cares if they don't last as long as platium.

I know a tuner that dyno tested the plugs and they got no more than 2 RWHP. that's a bit shy of what the claim is.

Pulstar claims 10 RWHP for a C5 ( http://www.pulstar.com/performance.htm ), but at $25 a plug, that's a big bite.

i put them in and they ran like ****, the car would hardly run i think only 6/8 cylinders were firing properly. I put the stock ones back in and these are sitting up on the shelf.

I was thinking about trying different plugs, but not sure what. I've tried Bosch and Split-Fire with no problems, but I sure didn't notice any gains in performance HP or gas-wise.....so I'm

I watch HP TV also but am always skeptical about products that advertisers/sponsors pay to have touted on the show. E3 is one of the sponsors.

Why? And for what? What criteria are current spark plugs not meeting?

A spark plugs function is to provide an insulated path, and two points, for a high voltage spark to "jump". What can possibly be done to dramatically improve on the current design? Nothing. And that's why Split fires, E3's, Platinum +4's and all the other "boutique" spark plugs make no tangible difference.

Too bad I didn't read this earlier....
Tried these plugs on the car last Saturday, had to switch back to stock too...Same problems here, misfiring on at least one cylinder.

Crappy plugs IMHO.

Default Imho

I must admit I haven't even given the plugs in the Z so much as a second thought but I've never put much stock in those plugs with multiple ground wires, bridges or whatever they call them. Why would experienced / professional racers go to the trouble to index single ground wire plugs if the ground wire didn't shield and impede the flame front.
Every trendy plug I've ever tried in the past ran worse than the OEM plug. I would think that unless you're really changing your engines operating parameters the stock plug is probably your best bet. In most modding situations you're probably only talking different heat range plugs anyway.
I do think those fine wire platinum electrode plugs, (single ground wire or edge fire type), are a good improvement because of the the plug's increased life. The electrode's edges stay sharper longer which theoretically helps it jump the gap easier.
If you disagree, fine, I'll put my flamesuit on.

Just more snakeoil like all the miracle restorer oil additives, super mileage carburators, and magic fuel ionizers, pure hokem.

I sent E3 an email three months ago asking for additional information on replacement plugs for my C6 before I would consider buying the new plugs. There web site has a C5 that they claim got an additional 10 HP. The email was read the day after I sent it, but never answered. Forum response to this plug has not been positive.

HPTV did a follow up to demonstrate that they reduced emissions and increased BSHP. Everything looks better on the dyno!

Every few years along comes a "new design" spark plug that promises to changes the world of driving for everyone. Once they can show me that the Formula One engine manufacturers are using them in competition (that is Ferrari, Mercedes, Cosworth, etc. have found they are of value) then maybe I'll pay attention. Until then it's all BS in my book. The proof is in the pudding, as they say.

(Maybe I can sell 50 million of the things if I put *8* electrodes on them! )
