C5Z axles on C6
Hey guys Happy New Year....
Do the C5Z06 axles bolt right up to the C6 Z51 w/o modifications? If not, what must be done to make them fit?
I was searching on the forum for my answer but didn't really get a for sure "yes" or "no" answer. I even tried contacting a few forum members that talked about doing the swap but really didn't get much help.
Can someone answer this for me.
Thanks in advance

I found a set of used C5Z axles here on the forum and want to make sure they fit before I buy them.
BTW how much are the new ZR1 axles? I tried to look them up on Gene Culley but didn't find them.
Thanks

I have a C5 rear assy in my 2005 C6, The standard C6 axles fit the Standard C5 rear. I do not know if the C5Z uses a different size spline. As far as the rest of the fit I don,t know.

The C5 corvette has one part number for the rear axles for all models. The C5Z doesnt have different axles than the base and Z51 C5.
I have C5 axles on my 2005 C6 Z51 and no modifications were needed to run them. The only area of strength difference was in a single 1" long space that is thinner on the C6 axle. Neither of my broken axles broke in that spot.
Since the C5 rear diff and axles are run on numberous C5's in the low 9's and for the IRS record, I'd say they are plenty strong parts.
I paid 250 at Gene Culey.

I thought I read that the difference was in the design of the CV joints. The C5's had a stronger design then the early C6's(not sure about the later C6's).

Yes, more bearings in the C5 Z joints spread the load better is what I was told by more than one source. Doesn't jive with Spins saying same PN though.

I think that sometimes GM uses the same part number if the new design part is functionally interchangeable with the old part. That is, after the old parts are out of the system, and they can then drop the old part number from the system. Once a new interchangeable part is in the system, there is no need to keep an old design part active in the system.
