Any of the true cold air intakes will do: Vararam, Vortex, LPE, Callaway.

Here is a poll I created. I'm hoping that most of these are '08 owners since the LS3 intakes are different in most cases.

Hope this helps a little:

Well I use a K&N and dynod over 400whp with just the CAI and tune(hood closed). Also trap 123mph with just mods below. I pull ambient temps according to my scanner with this intake.

Becareful whose advice you take because not everyone has the in person data to back up their statements.

Default My suggestion

http://www.halltechsystems.com/product_p/kb1032cp.htm Needs tuning to run the LS7 MAF sensor.

Or

No Tuning required:

That statement is a little confusing. For the '08 Killer Bee its plug and play with no required tuning.

I agree...

By the way why do some off these other intake manufacture still retain the factory accordian (causes turbulance)coupler? Guess it is not a complete kit.

Hi Ernie,
With all due respect, I just want to take issue with your point that manufacturers that retain the accordion couplers don't supply "complete" kits.

Callaway engineering tested the Honker C6/Z06 and non-Z06 systems on the flowbench as well as on the engine dyno, with and without smooth couplers. They didn't record any measurable increase in airflow, power or torque when the coupler was changed. I believe a plausible theory is, for the C6's, the bellows are pushed together so tightly that the air doesn't "see" the changes in cross-sectional shape, so it doesn't react to the depressions and turbulence is minimal. For whatever reason, it didn't help in these applications.

We never did this procedure with other manufacturers' C6 intakes, so we don't know whether they behave the same.

We considered including a smooth coupler in the C6 Honker kits but, I guess we couldn't justify adding another $30 or so to the price just to make it "look faster". This isn't intended to criticize other companies that use smooth couplers. Perhaps they do provide a benefit with their kits.

The other issue regarding coupler design is engine movement in the chassis. I think that GM engineers would have used a smooth coupler if they could have in order to reduce cost. We like the idea of isolating engine translation and vibration (movement) from the intake system and radiator shroud. In fact, for the C5 Honkers, we include a new accordion-shaped coupler.

The C5 coupler has a much different configuration than the C6 coupler: it's oval, wider and longer than the C6 part. Consequently, we had to design features into the C5 coupler to minimize turbulence. This coupler is "straighter" on the inside than on the outside; the wall thickness is greater at the bulges than at the depressions. Not the easiest part to manufacture, but it works well.

I'd have to say that the Honker kits are very "complete". In fact, in flowbench testing, Callaway engineers (and independent shops) haven't been able to find an aftermarket intake system to flow as much air.

I guess they have not tested the Vararam or the Vortex systems.

As far as the accordian coupler does reduce some hp due to the turbulance it provides. This has been tested at our dyno facility and independent ones and on our flow bench. If you do not want to include the coupler for 30.oo extra just throw it in the kit for free. It also looks nicer to remove the accordian coupler and replace it with a smooth one. Everytime we do an upgrade we do not charge more for it.

Engineering tested all popular systems.

As I mentioned in the earlier post: When testing with the Honker C6 system . . . "Engineering didn't record any measurable increase in airflow, power or torque when the coupler was changed. . . . . This isn't intended to criticize other companies that use smooth couplers. Perhaps they do provide a benefit with their kits."
