Gearing for Paddle Shift C6

Gearing for Paddle Shift C6
I have read numerous opinions about which gearing is best, 410's, seem to be the answer, but all guys seem to have 6 spds. Does anyone have a stock auto, paddle shift other than Corsa sports and Vararam running 4:10 gears?
What do you notice verses the stock?

Yeah 4.10's would kill first gear on the A6
1st 4.02 * 4.10 = 16.482
2nd 2.36 * 4.10 = 9.676
3rd 1.53 * 4.10 = 6.273
4th 1.15 * 4.10 = 4.715
5th .85 * 4.10 = 3.485
6th .67 * 4.10 = 2.274
3.15's would be a better choice...
* 3.15 = 12.663
* 3.15 = 7.434
* 3.15 = 4.819
* 3.15 = 3.622
* 3.15 = 2.677
* 3.15 = 2.110
1st 4.02 * 4.10 = 16.482
2nd 2.36 * 4.10 = 9.676
3rd 1.53 * 4.10 = 6.273
4th 1.15 * 4.10 = 4.715

Change the gears...save your GM warranty....BIG difference in SOTP performance...DTE offers the 3:15 gear set with warranty.
Add a SC...kiss the GM warranty goodbye along with resale value down the road! But BIGGER SOTP results! (SOTP = Seat Of The Pants)
My .02 cents

I always get the biggest kick out everyone hating the 2.56's and wanting to go to the 3.15's. If someone with an A4 came on and said they wanted to put in 4.82's in their car, they would be laughed off the forum. But that is exactly what the A6 with 3.15's is like, an A4 with 4.82's.
I still think the stock 2.56's are an excellent street gear. It's like an A4 with 3.92's so it's excellent for acceleration, but it's also great in 6th gear for cruising and getting stellar fuel mileage.

Depends on your goals the stock gears are great for a car that traps 120-126 you dont need to shift into fourth, and you are at or near redline in 3rd
Now if you have a slower car or dont plan to mod much or drag race gears "give a great feel"
Remember with the stock A6:
1st gear is like a m6 with 3.90's
2nd is close to a m6 with 3.42's
and 3rd pulls hard to 133 at the track
One less shift can win a lot of races

I agree with you on the 3.15. I had a A4 with 3.73 and know what that was like. I looked at the ratio numbers and thought about the traction issues I had with the 3.73 1st-2nd. With sticker tires and a converter it would have been better, but no thanks. It was loads of fun, but traction limited.

The only thing I don't know is if the converter is locked up under WOT? If it's locked then the 2.73 is good for 124 at 6500 rpm. If there is a 4% converter slip, this comes down to 119.

Just because you have lower gears does not always give you the advantage. For example, from a dig you may spin because of your lower gearing. Or from a roll, you may have to start out in 3rd gear where the other car with stock gears is still in 2nd and has the advantage until his car shifts.

check your dealer, they should be able to install it and I would figure if they do it you retain your factory warranty
