Default Got the headders put on today...

and boy was I dissapointed!! I have Kooks Long Tube headders with catted X pipe and bullet race mufflers. Car dynoed 352rwhp and 348rwtq SAE on the stock tune. The computer was pulling timing like crazy and there was knock. It is running SO lean the headders were BRIGHT red. They have installed 26 long tube headders on C6's and mine is by far the worst...yeah that feels good!! They said it will be on par with the tune, because it is running in the 14's now. Oh well, the blower should be here today and getting that put on next Wednesday...so they'll tune it then.

14 as in 14:1 AFR? That's bad. Why didn't they abort the pull? I don't understand some people. Doing as full pull that lean with knock is asking to hurt something isn't it?

Yes 14:1 AFR. They didn't have it hooked up for AFR readings, but that was a guess. That's why they did only one pull, and when they saw the headders bright red and heard the knock...they pretty much stopped it. Yeah, wasn't too happy either.

Wow, so the shop doing the dyno pulls didn't even use a wide band? Not good. Glad your car is ok, though. I'm sure the tune will make you smile.

Hopefully after the tune everything gets straightened out.

I have went through heck ever since I put the headers on.

My car dyno'd well (370rwhp/375rwtq SAE) with the tune, but went slower at the track by 0.11 seconds and 1.1mph.
I think these cars are very sensitive to knock and pull power.

After a retune I went 0.37mph faster, but still 0.06 seconds slower.

Finally I went to a new shop and got a 3rd tune, made 14rwhp more and will try one more time at the track.

If it is still slower there will be a heck of a deal for somebody on a set of headers and hi-flo cats

Keep us posted,

Howard

O.K. VERY, VERY SCARY since this morning I ordered the same KOOKS and set up. I also have the bullets! I'm sending your results to them (AZ POWER AND SOUND) and figuring out what to do next. I was very happy today until I read this thread!
Have anybody else had similar experience? Will I need a tune right after I install?

Just had kooks, off roadx installed with tune. The car already had the bullets, stinger intake and I had 410s installed with the headers. You definitely want to have the car tuned.Mine did 365rwhp without tuning for a baseline with the headers and then when they tuned it,it did 375rwhp,so I gained another 10 on top.I originally did only 334rwhp with bullets and stinger and then picked up 23rwhp just from tuning it the same day,so anyone who tells you not to tune your car better think again. The kooks sound great with the bullets, very loud at full throttle.

AZ POWER AND SOUND will be installing my headers the 13th of DEC. After reading this thread I decided to do it all at once. I'll be getting the Honker installed and will have them do the tune all at once. How much did your tune cost you? Was it dyno or street and how many runs in how many days?
Thanks

tuning will be around 500 bucks. They take about 4 hours doing it.Its definitely better to do things all at once so you dont have to keep retuning for each mod.Tuning also lets you change alot of things,my temps when hot are 200 or lower from having the fans set, they get rid of the skip shifts, raise my rev limiter. My a/f ratio was closer to the line on this tune compared to the last tuner. My gears caused a false rev limiter hitting at 58oo rpm in 2nd gear so that was adjusted as well.

Hey John, did you take it to MTi? If so what did Jayson say they would do next?

The tune is running me $500.00...together with everything else I mentioned above about $3100. A x-mas present from me to me. Anyway, I'm just hoping for no problems since the car is only one month old (07, MN6, Z51). Arizona Power & Sound have a great reputation and have done many vettes. I will be entrusting my car to them. Thanks for all your help.

Track times can be misleading on a car that is not set up to be consistant. I guarantee you will pick up power with Kooks or another lead brand over stock stuff. It's just physics. Don't be discouraged, headers are one of the best mods out there.
