The one from Zip products that they sell here on the Forum is good, but you can get a Lingenfelter unit a little cheaper on EBay.

I have tested several of the thermos in boiling water, and most of the 160 units actually start to open around 174 degrees. This is perfect, will keep your operating temps right around 180.

I bought an SLP off of Ebay. Cold night like tonight it will stay right at 176. Hardly ever see over 200 even on a 115 day sitting in traffic.

What did you (and others) do for the fan settings, from what I understand the settings/parameters available in the software only allows them to be set so low.

I didn't adjust them at all, have had no probs at all. As previously stated, temps will stay at or under 180 while cruising, under 200 even in prolonged stop & go traffic or idling.

C6 fans are controlled differently than the C5's , and it's not so easy to get them to turn on or off at a given temp.

I have not had a tune so I haven't messed with the fan settings. In the summertime, my A/C is on all the time anyway which brings the fan on.

This time of year, around town, my temps will vary from 176 to about 190.

Are C5 and C6 thermostats the same? I have an unused C5 stat.

Generally speaking no, 1997-2003 C5 thermostats won't work in the C6s, only the 2004 C5 thermostat will work I think.

Oh cool, so your cars did in fact run noticeably cooler with just the 160* thermostat install, no fan changes?

Thanks, Superwoman. I remember that thread well. It provided a description from the shop manual on how to test a thermo, which is by suspending it from a wire into a hot mixture of Dexcool and water. The thermo opens slowly, over a temperature range of 15 degrees or so.
