Default Magnacharger drive impressions

As my friends here have been saying I would... I am REALLY enjoying the new power in this car. Thanks to LPE for one bad-@$$ machine!

After taking delivery late this afternoon, I went to the local cruise-in and the Maggie was drawing lots of looks and comments! On the way home I had the chance to put the throttle down a bit and WOW!!!

I poked the gas in second gear around 40mph and broke the tires loose through the top of the gear where I finally backed out and soft shifted to third. The look on my Dad's face when he got PLANTED into the seat next to me was priceless! OMG this car rocks!!!

BTW - I took my wife for a ride and gave the car a little goose. Her words: "don't EVER do that with me in the car again".

HEHEHE

Total cost was under $15k, that includes Magnacharger package (LPE intake, fuel system upgrades, tune, dyno, etc - check LPE website for more info), RK Sport hood, Corsa exhaust, boost gauge, LPE coil covers, LPE badging, and enclosed trailer delivery back to my house.

Worth every penny!

Default supercharger over Turbocharger?

Hi, just wondering if you looked into getting the APS twin turbocharger? I was quoted the total installation plus tuning to be about $15000 which is about the same price as your supercharger except you got an extra hood. I am looking for mainly low end torque since mine is a daily driver and A6. I am thinking about getting the APS turbo since some people saiid that it makes more low end torque than superchargers. Just wondering your opinion. Thanks.

I chose the Magnacharger setup for a few reasons, and there's certainly many other great choices out there to consider. Nonetheless - here's why I went down the path I did.

1) My understanding is that - being a positive displacement blower and not a centrifugal supercharger - the Magnacharger produces a tremendous amount of low-end torque... precisely what I wanted.

2) The unit is relatively simple, quiet, and essentially maintenance-free.

3) My tuner of choice was LPE and it so happens they offer Magnacharger packages. For peace of mind and (potential) resale value - LPE was my only choice.

Either way, if you're going F/I - you can't go wrong. It's a helluva lotta fun!

Thanks! I have a couple shots of the covers that LPE took for me. I haven't had time to snap my own shots yet, but I should have more to post by Sunday.

Here's what LPE sent over as they were building the car.

twin turbos (or single turbos for that matter) are definitly not known for their low end torque. positive displacement blower would usually produce the most followed by centrifigal (sp?).

Do you need to replace the hood? Will it fit under the stock hood?

Right - the Magnuson requires a hood change. The other applications will typically fit under the stock hood.

Gotta say I really like the hi-rise RK Sport hood. The casual observer (read - non-vette guys) don't even realize it's aftermarket.

I love my hood. Even if I didn't get a Magnacharger I'd probably have installed it anyways. Looks really cool from the driver's seat too.

Congrats on the new setup. The red covers look kinda cool too!

BTW - I took my wife for a ride and gave the car a little goose. Her words: "don't EVER do that with me in the car again".

Your wife and mine must be from the same mold. After an "accidental" slip of the throttle my wife immediately screamed (and I quote) "YOU SH#T HEAD!! If you EVER do that again I am going to stick my foot up your a#s and THEN I'm walking home"

BTW. Your car looks GREAT!!

The RK Sport hood definitely looks wicked! Much better than the stock hood, and definitely better than some of the other hi rise hoods I've seen (the ones with scoops on them-yuck!)
