He certainly does not speak for me.

I was one of the ones who asked you how it was done. Yes, I would love to know how to do it myself, but in actual practice, I would prefer a professional of your caliber with actual experience to do it for me. I am very accepting of the fact that you guys figured out how to do something that is fairly difficult, and that there is value in that knowledge. It's the same with anything else that a business creates.

I am not ready to pull the trigger on something like this TODAY, but I would like to gather information and possibly do this in a month or two, depending on the cost, of course. I would like to have the assemblies painted a dark flat gray color to contrast with my Machine Silver coupe. I don't want some troll pissing you off so I have no opportunity to get this done. As far as I know, you are the only ones that know how to do this. That being the case, I would not expect you to publicy disclose something that could be termed a "trade secret", as long as you are reasonable in your cost structure.

There seems to be a lot of people on this forum who are looking to pick a fight at the drop of a hat... one of the reasons my participation level has dropped over the last several months. I would ask you to try not to let them create a sense of distrust for the others on this forum that might actually prefer your team to perform the modification. And while he has valid opinions, there are certainly more tactful, respectful and constructive ways to express them.

Please consider me "interested" and you can PM me if you want to continue this discussion off-line.

Thank you sir!

SMM

PS - Hell, I'm just happy that someone actually figured it out!
I'm not interested in the project right now, but I appreciate the info.

This is an easy mod! I've done it many times to chrome RSX headlights. Ripped them apart, painted them black or whatever colour and put them back together.

The light assembly on the C6 is no different than any other light assembly. I highly doubt Callaway did any cutting. Just put them in the oven at 300F for 20 min and you can rip it apart easily.

To put it back together, you just heat it up again for 10 min to get the glue nice and soft and then use a bunch of clamps to hold it till it cools. The seal will be as good as new.

I use to charge $100 to do this mod for people. I'm sure that's a lot less than Callaway.

I don't blame him. As a vendor I would not give how to lessons on here either. That is not why a vendor joins this forum.

Don't forget he has to pay to play, we do not.

Oh, and yes I agree with the comment on the orange.

Good post moto. I would be afraid to put my headlights in an oven but sounds like it would work.

I noticed the same thing. Lots of bickering.

I liked the C5 section better, but hey, I bought a C6. I guess you can't pick your friends, even on the Internet. I wonder if Al Gore saw this coming when he invented the Internet.

You are basically just heating it to soffen the butyl rubber seal so you can take the clear lense off.

Moto, thanks for the great info and pics!

Yeah, based upon Callaway's Premium Pricing, they'd probably want $1,200 - $1,500 a set, to do this procedure.

In order to avoid any further ill will that my question might have generated, i.e., "Would anyone be interested in having us do the process for them?", I withdraw the question.

It seems like we should all just forget the whole thing and move on.
Probably too late to undo the damage now, and taking your marbles and going home in a huff isn't helping your case any.

Bravo! Well done! I commend you on your marketing skills!

You guys do absolutely BEAUTIFUL work, however, I find your "markups" to be astonishingly high!

So, just out of curiosity, how much would you charge to do a set of headlights painted black?
The only things lame here are your post and attitude. Move along.

Man, if I can get that kind of pricing, I would still be doing it today. I've done about 50 sets during the time I was doing it. I guess Corvette owners have a lot more money than RSX owners.

$1500 a set? You can buy new headlings (for a black C-6) from the factory for like $1750 and have the dealer put them on perfectly.

I think I would go with Callaway before I would go with the dealer to do this.

Just curious, why would one want to do this anyway?

on some cars, that may be a "solution" to the matter at hand however, on the car that Callaway did last week, I think it would look goofy

In fact, this image pops into mind

It's not for the faint of heart.
I've e-mailed Engineering so I can give you all an accurate description of what we went through.

I'm not saying that he (mvc) is lame, I'm saying that the reply from his "Engineering guy" was lame!

Team5150:

Are those tinted lenses or painted inside? It looks tinted to me.
If so, does it effect the night lighting visability?

I'm getting Red, and I think satin black inside would look better.
