Default C6 Z06 Corvette Brakes

I have recently come into the ability to pick up a set of the front brake calipers for the Z06. The 6 piston version, I am sure you are all very familiar with these units. What I want to know is if anyone has the part numbers for these calipers and how far the caliper sticks out off the rotor. I may have some custom rotors cut up to have these fit under a 16" wheel.. Bracket Fabrication to fit them on the car will be a further headache, but do to my particular driving style. Well, they could prove to be helpful.

Am not very well versed in brakes, other than changing pads, rotors etc. basic maintaince.... will these calipers work as standard locking power brakes or are they only abs? I have my supplier checking whether or not these calipers will fit onto a 12" LS1 rotor. Any help would be appreciated.. The car is obviously not a corvette.

Oh the supplier is another f-body guy at a dealership...

You need to use the new rotors due to the thickness and size
I just changed out to the whole setup on my c6

BTW the rotors wont be your problem it will be the caliper size

Currently nobody makes a custom rotor to fit the design of the caliper. It's 14" rotor or nothing right now. And you would not get it to fit on a 12" rotor no mater what. You'd have pad hanging off.

I was gonna have them made up, I know largest that can fit under the stock 16" wheel is a 13" rotor, with some room to spare. Do you think Baer could make a rotor to comply with the calipers and my stock spindles? I know they use their own 6 piston monoblock setup, but its alot more expensive then what I would be getting these for. (Baer does custom work, for a price) any required brackets I can have fabricated from steel.. Do you think its do able? I want the stock apearrance with as much performance as possible.

Use Colman Rotors. I think Bear contrats with Colman so just go to the source.

It's not going to happen on a 12" rotor. 13' is cutting it close.

It's a issue of the hub of the rotor and how it is made to work with the Z06 caliper. Look at the rotor and see how it has a valley in it before it goes to the hub. This is so it doesn't hit the caliper. This is compared to a C5 rotor.

Alright... I'll look into it though,, but if thats the case I dont think they are gonna cut that style up for me... Ill price it out, and then check it against a few other sets.

Personal opinion, I might get flamed for it but still.. Right now I have single piston calipers, running the original gm asbestos pads and stock rotors all the way around. They stop very well because the way the suspension is setup but as you can imagine, when endurance racing they overheat very quicky. They also dont stop the car very well in excess of 130-140mph. What would you reccomend as a brake system to stop this car? I have been looking for the best out there, mostly because I should be dead and I have lost alot of close friends to cars.

She probably wont be racing again for a few more years.. Though she may take a trip down to the SCCA this summer.

It's a IROC. They've been adapting C5 kits for a while now.

Try going to a Wilwood set up. They should have something that will meet your needs.

they would be going on this:
http://s6.photobucket.com/albums/y22...d/scan0006.jpg

Wilwood has 13" 4 piston calipers for $1500 for the front but I dont think they make anything for the rears.. I really want this car rockin and rollin again, and maybe a little bit safer than it was last time.. I just dont want to make any modifications that put it past restorable condition. My whole issue is safety.

Not bad, but it was a bad idea to sell considering an 89' 1Le sold for 45k not all to long ago... That car would be worth over 100k.

Anyway in order to buy them the first two years 88 and 89 you needed an SCCA License.

Burton nice car.....

most certainly but that seems to be the average,,, good ole freddy beans in that other thread is sellling a 4 pack for 1600. (Front 6p rear 4p)

I would be happy to be able to do the fronts for 1k.. Everywhere else I turn is 1500-4000 for the front brakes only.
