What are you guys doing on long trips when you don't have the runflats? Do you carry a can of pressurized flat fix? Do you just keep the number of AAA close by?

Thanks,
Glenn

Good question!! I'd love to hear what people's thoughts are on this.

OK....so there's the problem of getting immediate help once you get a flat...with runflats you can drive a ways to get it repaired...and, hopefully, it will, indeed, be repairable (it may, or may not, thus negating some of the advantage of running them)

a far bigger problem is that of finding a runflat in stock, at a Goodyear dealer who's trained and qualified to swap the tires without damaging anything! you'll have better luck in a large urban area....small town? forget it....

i've made many long trips.....i go by two things: first, that flats are pretty rare in the first place, and second, that AAA will simply tow me when necessary.........so far, 29,000 miles and no flats at all (about half with non-runflats)

Keep the stock run flats for road use. Get another set of wheels
& tires for track use. Then you have the best of both worlds. The Goodyears are fine for normal daily driving.

I carry a small 12v compressor and a self vulcanizing plug kit. Pep Boys, Auto Zone, just to name a few that have these.

Thanks,
Glenn

I actually have two of these kits I carry. One for the Vette, the other, the H-D Roadglide. The plugs work very nicely. I've used them on the H-D tire with only 3k on it and run the tire right to 3/32. No loss in air or stability. I plugged a friends rear tire last year on the way to Sturgis, S D. He pulls a trailer too. We put 6k on that tire before we got home. Plug was still in there when he finally got around to replacing the tire because it wore out.

BFG's do not even come close to the michelin PS2. Hence the huge difference in price. The KDW's are noisy and they are not a sticky.

They're both good tires, I think the PS/2s are a bit better but then they cost a fair amount more. I'd be inclined toward the BFGs if you're really planning on pushing it and going through them pretty fast and the PS2s if you're planning on keeping them for 2 or 3 years. Of course this depends on your tire replacement budget! Other reasonable options are the Toyo T1R and the Falken FK451.

you get free roadside assistance from chevy during the warranty period. Don't need AAA.

I run Falken GR-2 Beta's and love them.

i disagree big time with the noisy thing re the BFGs.....i think this is a myth started by someone commenting on them in the TireRack......i just don't get it....they are in no way any more noisy than the average tire

and same thing on the stickiness issue.....i've run them at Thunderhill and i didn't feel them slippy at all, and they stuck much better than the stock runflats......

Ok it is open season on which tire to get to replace runflat or non-run flat but which ever tire you get where is the best place to buy them and if applicable have them installed both at the best prices?
Also which all season tire is superior in both wet and dry whether a run flat or not?

The noise claims are : BFG tires are made by Michelin and the KDWs use the same carcass as the Pilot series. The PS2 is nothing more than a Pilot variant.
