This is a late response to your post: If you hate things French, then why do you drive a car named after Louis Chevrolet, a Frenchman, that has the French royal symbol of the fleur di lis on it ? Or do your jst like to bash the French ?

BTW, a Frenchman also invented the radial tire. It took the US manufacturers almost 20 years to admit it was better than bias tires.

Lo & Behold, my tires arrive today, and they are GOODYEAR GS-2 EMT's, NOT SUPERCARS...

Needless to say, I'm more than a little P.O'd...

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

I waited to post this until AFTER I spoke to them. Jake in customer service was very apologetic about the mistake, assured me that in fact the wrong tires were pulled, and that a pair of these tires was visually verified to be IN STOCK by thier Vegas distribution center manager, and were coming to me, 2nd Day Air at no additional charge AND that UPS would be out to pick up the incorrect set @ no charge...

So, if the correct tires arrive on Wednesday, as promised, I will SING THIER PRAISES - otherwise, I'll be calling AMEX to dispute the charge...

OTOH, these GS-2's don't look to bad. There's more tread to them than the Supercars, and they're a 300 Treadwear. Anyone care to comment on how they HANDLE?

Regards,

Rick
got a set of the GS-2's after 2 blowouts at the same time on my Z51. were the only ones i could find locally on short notice. Did a couple of days at VIR both with the supercar and the GS-2's no comparison, the GS-2's seem to be much slipperier.. Am seriously considering selling the Gs-2's and getting a new set of the supercars

Has anyone tried the Toyo T1R's? They are available in the right sizes.

Having come from an 04 SRT Viper which at times was like driving on an ice rink I'm sticking with the OEM Goodyears. The C6 Z51 handling is so superior I actually push my car in places that Viper would not handle and I have been unable to break it loose.

Default Tires to replace F1 Supercar EMT's for Z51

Michelin won't have the rears out for awhile. Not sure if there is a manufacturing issue or what. 4 month wait time was quoted.

I replaced the F1 Supercars with the Bridgestone Potenza RE050's. They are actually quite good. Had to set the pressure to 43 hot to get them to handle well on the track. Sidewall much less stiff, allowing another rider in the car (over 180 pounds) without throwing off the vehicles dynamics.

I wanted the PS2s but not available. The Potenza's are definitely much better than the F1's in handling.

What about R compound tires? Any ideas there?

I have not started researching tires for my C6 yet (base suspension and 5000 miles) but on my C5's I learned that many run-flats are not repairable. So while you might save money on the front side (such as Firestones non repairable run flat at $100 less per tire than Goodyear or Michelin), one puncture and you have to replace the tire and at that point you could have bought Goodyear, Michelin, etc. This may change with newer generation run-flats when they come out in C6 sizes. Just be sure to ask the question!

I can't believe I didn't catch that! I just went up and copied the tire info from an above post and checked the local inventory.

In the stock 285 size they only have the one tire below. I have no idea of the quality of these tires. Just showing all of the options available.

My understanding is that Toyo tires are very good.

I saw an ad for 195-19's for $45--good buy

Default Tires to replace Run Flats

With the Z51 package, Michelin PS2's are supposed to be the best, BUT they are not making the rears for another 4 months for some reason. I replaced my run flats with 1500 miles on them (wore them out in 1500 on the track) with Bridgestone Potenza RE050's.

I have not used the Michelin's so I cannot compare, but the objective testing done by the Tire Rack suggests that the Bridgestones are 2nd to the Michelins.

I used them on the track last week, and they were significantly better than the run flats on most of the track. The stiff sidewall with the run flats reduces how creative you can get with tire pressures, and definitely made the car more sensitive to load (a 2nd person in the vehicle messed up my lap times in a big way).

Setting the tire pressure hot at 43 seemed to give the car perfect balance, and I don't think I could ever go back to the run flats after driving with these. I am looking forward to testing the Michelin's but I can say for certain that the Bridgestones are significantly better than the run flats.

My bad, I didn't state clearly (but implied) that Goodyear and Michelin fun-flats can be repaired. Most of the less expensive run-flats (like Firestone) cannot.
